Alright, people -- I am totally new here, but I've read this entire thread
I'm in the same situation as many people on here: An American who is starting to really, really appreciate football and needs a club to get behind (to make it more fun if nothing else)
As far as the Big 4, the only club I would consider is Liverpool, and that is almost entirely due to Gerrard. I read his autobiography, and have watched him on TV a few times. The guy is amazing. They have the history and passionate fans as well, and seem like a good enough club to pick
When I was in London last May, I had a chance to hang out near White Hart lane during the Liverpool/TH match. We didn't get into the match, but went to a couple of nearby bars and had an absolute blast. the people totally accepted my brother and myself, as two yanks with no clue. Admittedly, I started to want to learn more about THFC after the Bill Simmons EPL article, so that is why we decided to spend the day in tottenham instead of chelsea or west ham, who also had home matches. That whole experience left me with nothing but great feelings towards the Spurs supporters, and pretty much placed THFC squarely in the lead.
The other situation I was impressed greatly with was Fulham. Yes, they are a shit Premiership team right now, and barely dodged relegation, but the area of Fulham and Craven cottage are amazing, so I can see the appeal there as well.
This whole mess with Robbie Keane has drawn me away from Liverpool, and leaves me feeling anger towards each of the Big 4. It's going to stay the way it is as long as those teams are scooping up the best players from the rest of the league. what the hell. (rant over. sorry)
Sounds like you've already picked Spurs.

Sorry to hear you are upset over the Keane deal. However the big teams always take players from other smaller clubs. This is the nature of the modern game. Remember Spurs take players from teams like Blackburn and Wigan in order to improve their squad.
The problem these days is that players have too much power and can move almost at will. Spurs had little choice to sell Keane once he had submitted a transfer request. It is difficult and counter-productive hanging on to an unhappy player as he can play without effort or make problems in the dressing room. Man U might find this out this month if C Ronaldo is adamant he wishes to move to Real Madrid.
If you are unsure which team to follow then watch this coming season and then whichever player or team captures your imagination should be the one to adopt.

Watch as much soccer as you can this season and choose a team it seems like you're leaning towards Spurs though. Fulham would be nice but they'll probably get relegated and then you can't watch them easily but they have a few Americans.

Someone hasn't been paying attention to the offseason. Fulham isn't going down. If anything, they're looking up towards mid-table.

What MSC is saying is that he has only seen Liverpool play when it's broadcast on TV, because he's a shit. Anfield always has a great atmosphere. Legsie's comment was pretty shit aswell, do you really think Liverpool fans are the only fans who sing when they are not winning? And if that was true (which it isn't) how does that make them the best fans?
Because
It makes them the best because we show our support to our team no matter what, find me another fanbase that does that.....There are loads of rerasons to support Liverpool, Like we are the ONLY english club to win and KEEP the champions league cup.

Look around my friend. If you truly have a brain, you'll find that Liverpool supporters aren't the only ones who engage in the "support no matter what" model.

So now we see that legsie has only seen Liverpool matches, I do actually remember watching a couple of Champions League matches where Liverpool were behind, like against Marseille and it was silent. There are only actually a couple of teams in the Premiership whos fans fall silent just because they are losing, most go for the whole match.

You should definitely support Arsenal they play some of the most beautiful football and their team is now young and could produce some amazing new talent.

Which will get bought up by more ambitious clubs and then Arsenal will push some more young talent into the team. Arsenal are a money club, they have made that quite clear this year.

How can you say we are all about the money??? Wenger buys very few players each year and they are all pretty cheap. Chelsea and Man united buy players left and right. For example Chelsea bought Shawn Wright Phillips, a great player for 20 million dolars give or take, and he doesnt even make the bench half of the time. Why did they buy him? So arsenal couldn't have him. Man U is the same case, they bought Nani and Anderson the amazing Brazilian Duo and although Nani trowards the end of the season got some playing time Anderson barely saw wat the pitch even looked like other than from his TV. So before you go saying arsenal is all about the money, you might wanna gert ur crap in line.

I think what people mean when they say Arsenal is a money club is when Wenger said they need to clear 24M each year. The inference here is that Arsenal is more about money than silverware instead of they are all about spending money like chelski. Not every club gets to finance players through the oppression and resource theft of half a nation.

When I said they were a money club, I meant they care about their bank balance more than silverware. Not that they spend shitloads to try and buy success. And I don't think this can be denied.

Take note that this has been said for the past 3 seasons, and then go look at the standings for those years.
