60,000 in the 80s? You have to be kidding. When?
The ground didn't even hold 60000 in the 80s. Capacity was given as a generous 43,000 in 80/81.
Bolton's highest league crowd, for their only season in the top flight in the 80s, was 31,902 for the visit of Man Utd. Lowest that year was 8,995 for the visit of Coventry.
Bolton's average crowds for the 80s were
79/80 16,353 - Div 1
80/81 9,847 - Div 2
81/82 7,597 - Div 2
82/83 7,552 - Div 2
83/84 5,893 - Div 3
84/85 4,951 - Div 3
85/86 4,847 - Div 3
86/87 4,851 - Div 3
87/88 5,018 - Div 4
88/89 5,528 - Div 3
The supermarket was built in the mid 80s. That's long before clubs were even thinking of going all-seater (except at Coventry).
Either you have a curious memory, or an older relative had been a bit economical with the truth about how things were back then.
Well when I said 60,00 in the 80's I hadn't been looking at any figures I just know we sold it out good and proper, and all the clubs had it on their minds to go all seater, that's why the plans were brought in much longer before, and every new stadium being planned was being planned for all seater, and we had near sell out crowds for many key games during the 80's as I said, with the other games against shit teams gathering crowds of like 2,000/3,000. But an average of 5,000 for a division 4 club is very good never the less.
But I think you'll find my initial statement was that we were selling out stadiums in the 3rd/4th divisions which we were.
And no there is nothing to do in Bolton anytime nevermind a Saturday, and there's even less now given that the Stadium is miles away so that I can't get to it without spending all my money, if it was back where Burnden Park was I guarentee we would be getting crowds of 35,000+

How old were you in the mid 80s?
Name one game in the 80s anywhere near a sell-out.
From three of the yearbooks I have at hand, showing crowds in the 80s...
83/84 Highest 11,059 v Oxford. Lowest 3,266 v Plymouth
84/85 Highest 7,712 v Bradford. Lowest 3,627 v Reading
85/86 Highest 9,252 v Wigan. Lowest 2,902 v Darlington
I can guarantee than none of the other years show a different story. Bolton were not coming anywhere near to selling out Burnden Park in that era. Who told you they were?
and all the clubs had it on their minds to go all seater, that's why the plans were brought in much longer before and every new stadium being planned was being planned for all seater,
clubs didn't even consider going all seater until after the Hillsborough disaster - which was in 1989 if you don't know. Even then it wasn't considered as necessary until after the publication of the Taylor Report, the following year. The only club actively involved in moving in that era was Scunthorpe - and their new stadium wasn't all seater. Bolton didn't install one extra seat into Burnden Park in that era.
But I think you'll find my initial statement was that we were selling out stadiums in the 3rd/4th divisions which we were.
You didn't come anywhere close. Assuming that 43,000 capacity, you were doing well to get to a 1/4 of capacity.
If you know of one single match which got close then please share. At very least state where you are getting your information from.
if it was back where Burnden Park was I guarentee we would be getting crowds of 35,000+
In 1996, in the premier league, Bolton averaged under 19,000 at Burnden Park - 3,500 under capacity. Bolton did have a bad season, and crowds have risen a bit since then, but there's litt;e to suggest Bolton would average 35,000. They've only managed an average that high once ever - in 1952.

errrr....
Given that we weren't even selling out our 22,000 capacity every week in 95/96 when it was a hell of a lot cheaper to go to football I doubt we'll be selling out now. It's also easier to drive to and park near the Reebok than it was at Burnden. We also definitely weren't getting any sell-outs in the 80's, if we had the monstrosity that was Normid wouldn't have been built in the corner.
We've always been a moderately supported team, admittedly our attendances have suffered over the past 18 months but there are many factors to that. Cost is number one though, it's just too expensive to go and watch football. We should be operating at around 90% capacity with a lot of that 10% dependent on away fans though.

The parking isn't the issue, Burnden was much easier to get to than the Reebok, I'm not talking about keeping Burnden either, I'm saying that if we stuck a new stadium where Burnden was we would get such attendances, the amount of fans who can't/refuse to go to the Reebok is really quite high, which is why people on my end of Bolton have started turning to Blackburn. When you consider the population of this Town is 300,000, if the stadium was in the centre of the town, a stadium that was actually nice rather than falling apart, I'm fairly confident we could erach 35,000
I'll accept that I'm probably wrong about the attendances then, they just seemed alot higher when I was a kid in the late 80's, sorry:D

Man Utd. So fun to watch. Sir Alex runs a tight ship. Incidentally, I saw these new Man Utd black jerseys @ soccercouture.com
I want a Cristiano kit - dude is playing so well this season. I think he's going to be FIFA World Player of the Year.

I was simply expressing my anger at my team, and Malouda's performance in my own weird way. ;)

I should do something similar about Bolton then, but I couldn't really pin the blame on one single player, they've all been shit.

Choose the team that finishes one spot above the relegation zone. Then the team will really have chosen you. ;)

Maybe you should just be a neutral. Support your national team and root for teams you like atm.
There's this guy who calls himself a bandwagoner and glory hunter and literally switches teams on a whim. He was a Chelsea supporter but now I think he's a Real Madrid supporter.

If I was going to pick a team to support that aren't one of the big 4, aren't just totally reliant on money and have great fans and are one of the most historical clubs etc I would pick Everton or Aston Villa, they really are the 2 stand out teams that really do still represent the areas they are from whilst still playing good successful football and sell out stadiums no matter what.
If I could stop supporting Bolton (at times I really wish I could) and I could choose any team, it would be one of them.

Nope I live in the hills so can't even get broadband, but I do have guitar hero which is the most addictive thing ever:D
Aston Villa are owned by an American and Tom Hanks is a 'fan' and Everton have Sylvester Stallone as a 'fan'. Both gayboys though if you ask me. And if you like Africans support Arsenal or Portsmouth.
