Pick either Sheffield Wednesday and/or Tottenham and also choose to drink either Pabst Blue Ribbon or Strohs. Any combo of the 4 are gonna help you build character...;)

Hey I'm new here.
Just have a question that fits in here perfectly - I've been to England several times now, especially to London and I'll live there for at least one year. I have to choose between Spurs and Gunners.
Can anyone help me? Some convincing reasons?

Well if you start supporting Arsenal at this moment, you'll be seen as a bangwagon jumper, considering they are at the top of the table.
Although, you can expect Arsenal to participate in champions league in a regular basis, if thats among your concerns.
As for the football itself, the two teams seem to have promising talent, although Tottenham havent been able to exploit there's so far this year.
It also comes down to wether you wanna be part of a minority or majority.

why does it have to be between spurs and arsenal? will you be living in north london? there are alot more clubs in london - some of which you may actually be able to afford to attend every other week - and that's where the fun is.

You thinkin' about samller teams or what?
pretty much.
clubs like fulham, charlton athletic, or crystal palace can be very worth your time. without knowing what year you're going to live there, there's no way of knowing whether they'll be in the prem or the championship; but either way, it'll easier to get tickets, see the same people at the same pubs, and make yourself a meaningful contributor to the club's 'community' than it will with a huge club.
prem football is obviously great, but following (or joining, perhaps) a club like charlton athletic through a promotion-chasing campaign would be great fun.
personally, i'd suggest QPR, but they're going to be truly crap for a time.
if it's really spurs, arse, or nothing, obviously, i'd say spurs - but i'm not sure it'd matter, either way. you'll just be another american tagging along (though less so, perhaps, at spurs). arsenal will likely win more. spurs have a soul.

its a tougfh decision between those two clubs, the best thing is to have a look at
-Clubs history both clubs have great history,
-Current form Arsenal are top of the table and Spurs are not so good in 18th place,
-Players both have very young talented players-possibly arsenal are better at the moment
-Managers arsenals Arsene Wenger is experienced (being there for 10 years) and his job is safe, Spurs Martin Jol is always on the hunt for Young talent, but his job at the moment is unsafe.
-Style of Play arsenal play very attractive style of football, with short passes and few long balls.Spurs play with a combination of Long and short ball football.
-Stadium spurs have an older stadium of around the 40,000 mark and arsenal have a newly built stadium 2 seasons old now of around 60,000.
Both clubs at the moment are similar, in the way of having young players who are very talented.

Forget the Premiership. Support some random team from the north such as Chesterfield, Scunthorpe, or Sheffield Wednesday.
...;)

What do you mean that they have a soul?
just biased claptrap, for the most part.
but basicly, what it alludes to is the manner in which arsenal football club have sold their's. leaving one of football's finest architectural masterpieces for a massive concrete utilitarian bowl. selling everything there from 'arsenal brand pizza' to 'arsenal brand water' to 'arsenal brand cologne'. treating their fans like the shit that they essentially are*, that they may be more inviting to, shall we say, more 'corporate' revenue streams.
they're a rip-roaring success over at the bank, though, and, to be honest, on the pitch, as well - so sit down, shut up, put away your flag (they're not allowed, y'know), and enjoy it. you'll have plenty of time (well, a good ten minutes, anyway, before being ushered away) after the whistle to snap post-match photos of the grand new stadium with all the other tourists ... er ... fans.
the lane, on the other hand, is still magic. feels like a proper football ground, because it is a proper football ground. with proper fans, to boot.
that said, i've no doubt that we're not that far behind on how much of the club's soul is on offer, if there's enough cash. ticket prices are already obscene (though not as bad as our neighbors'), and the official 'tottenham hotspur catfood bowl' is right there in the stadium shop. so any ol' arsenal fan can come 'round and let you know how we're just as 'corporate', but just not as good at it. fair enough. but at least at spurs you'll know you've still got a heart - by the manner in which they rip it out every other week.
and that, in a nutshell, is why my response to your query is 'why not fulham?'
... or charlton?
... or QPR?
... or brentford?
(ha. now i've overdone it. but you get my point.)
*ok, that was a bit much. there are some very decent arsenal fans, to be sure.

Personally, if I lived in London and did not already support a club, Ide go for a championship side. The accessibility to go to games makes it more appealling.

I can think of at least one other team in London that I'd rather support. you'd never be accused of being a bandwagon jumper at West Ham. Great fans, good ground. Great History, been at the same ground since 1904, legendary atmosphere at the games. even the kits great!

i need proof of that great kit, pic please...
and most of the football teams hve been around awhile..quite a few longer than west ham...
SWFC 1867;)
In 1882 the Hotspur Football Club was founded...
Arsenal were founded in 1886...
And West Ham the club was originally founded as Thames Ironworks F.C. in 1895 and later reformed, in 1900, as their current incarnation...
but that isn't what you were talking about was it? oops my bad!
that would be a great name...
