actually, i think that was a very constructive post. fabricating 'support' from wholecloth, based upon nothing whatsoever*, really isn't support, is it?

*'nothing whatsoever' being roughly the equivilent of basing it on message board feedback.

Point being, if you disagree with the very premise of getting advice on a message board on what teams to considering following and eventually becoming a fan of, then why would you post in just such a thread?

you could create a thread called "why should I support a team"

you could create a thread called "why should I support a team"

Or "Why should I ask your advice about supporting a team?"

Or "You're not worthy to support the team I was suckled on, you lame American tool"

Or... nevermind. I give up.

no.

point being, that the post in question was a valid contribution to such a dialogue. not significantly different from acceptplace's post immediately prior. but you charming implications of my closed-mindedness on the heels of suggesting that others should not post here, at all, is mildly ironic, mr moderator.

Understand that moderators are posters too, with opinions of their own. While I (and many other mods) try to post with higher respect and restraint than is generally expected from members, I'm not going to refrain from voicing an opinion, even when it's to tell someone they're wrong.

And for the record, I am not a moderator of this forum. But if I were, I would have said the same thing.

That out of the way, allow me to explain my thought process...

Premise of the thread: Hi, I'm new to soccer and/or the English league system. Lacking an obvious team connection, I'd like some advice on how to select a team to follow.

tommuster: If you have to ask, you aren't cool enough to be a fan.

My response: go troll elsewhere

I'm not sure what made you come to his aid, but perhaps you see a positive side to his post that I did not. If so, please enlighten me. Unfortunately, if you can't tell the different between acceptplace and tommuster's posts, this is probably pointless.

... tommuster: If you have to ask, you aren't cool enough to be a fan ...

that's not what he posted.

and to paraphrase something i read earlier, if you can't take anything else from tommuster's post, then, yes, this is probably pointless.

Forget the Premiership. Support some random team from the north such as Chesterfield, Scunthorpe, or Sheffield Wednesday.

yeah cause that makes sense! lets just pull for a team that we cant watch, that noone we know has even heard of, and that sux. also this is the premiership forum so if someone asks on here, its probably because they want to pull for a premiership team.

I think i have it cut down to Spurs and Newcastle...... Im just having a hard time deciding...

If you eventually what to see a live game...a game at White Hart Lane costs an arm and a leg, but london is more accesible then Newcastle and simply a much better city.

Since your a Celtic fan...why not support Liverpool, since the two clubs share a long tradition together.

Another thing to think about is what the teams fans are like. Or at least thought to be like.
Do you want to support a team whos fans are delusional or often violent?
Or how about a team who's fans are considered reserved and their stadium to quiet to have good atmosphere?

Case in point. I've read a couple of things by Milwall fans the last couple of years. They had ultra's from across europe comming to their games just to fight. And one guy was talking about winning the FA cup to get back into European comps where they belong. If I remember right they have not been in the Prem at all! And not the old old Div. 1 for quite some time! (apologies to Milwall fans but I did read articles with both of these facts).

Or one of the best teams in the Prem, Arsenal Highbury was called the library for a reason.
