Okay, here's my story. I'm an American who decided to follow the EPL last year. I was drawn to Arsenal, because I'm a big Hornby fan and loved Fever Pitch, but didn't want to be a bandwagoner. But I did want a prominent enough team that I'd be able to see a lot of their games in the US, so I thought I'd go with Spurs, but left open the possibility that after actually watching games for a while I'd be captured by someone else. Halfway through the season I found I wasn't liking Spurs all that much, they didn't seem to have a lot of fight in them, but found that as a soccer novice I was drawn to Arsenal's slick passing style, and I loved Henry (ooops). Plus (based on very brief experience) Islington a lot cooler area than N17. So I went with Arsenal after all, bandwagon accusations be damned.

Then I got back together with my former girlfriend, who's English and whose father has lived his whole life in SE London and is a Charlton fan, so now I'm supporting them as well. I'm almost glad they got relegated so they're not in the same league as Arsenal, at least for this season, although it means I'll seldom see them on TV.

Sorry, after 380 responses in this thread it seemed to me like the only clear answer that had emerged is that (1) you need to follow the league for at least a little while, actually watch games, and (2) you have to follow your own heart in these matters. Which was kind of the point of my little anecdote, as well. Sorry if I wasted your time.

And with nice guys like you around, why wouldn't we want to shut up and keep our passion for our team in check. You've really missed the point of this thread.

Accrington Stanley, theyre not in the Premiership But who cares? they deserve to be! Theyre the second single greatest and best club in the whole of the world, first being Arsenal of course.

Supporting Man United is like joining the dark side. Instead, how about joining the Rafalution?

Man U is like the Yankees. Why would you ever support them unless you were essentially born a fan?

Hi, Im an American.... And I have been watching soccer for awhile, but just this year, I got FSC and Setanta sports so i actually get to watch the games now....

Now, my first team as you can see is Celtic (im a huge Celtic fan)...... But when it comes down to it, Im trying to pick my favorite EPL team...... I have cut down my favorite team into a top 4 in no order:

Liverpool, Spurs, Newcastle, and Man U (i know.....i know... But they have some pretty good players),

Il be glued to the tv for the season and hopefully il be able to choose a team before to long.

Thats actually either my #1 or #2........... I actually got to watch the NewCastle game last week, and they are an exciting club..... I also found one of my new favorite players, Obafemi Martins... The guy is just so athletic and a great attacking striker.

Newcastle's always a fine choice. Never hurts to have nice kits and a beer of the same name. The main drawback is the location, which is just this side of West Bumblef#$%...

Hey, I'm from Columbus. No one wants to visit there either. It's ok. ;)

I'm just saying that if you ever want to actually catch a home game, you will have to actively pursue it much further than with a London team like Spurs *cough*or Fulham*cough...

Yes but if you support a London team like Spurs or Fulham you have 2 major drawbacks.

1) You have to go to London

and

2) You have to admit to supporting Spurs or Fulham

:D
