Allright, since he just signed for River, it's time we get this thread started. What can you guys tell me about him. I understand he's nicknamed "Yepesito" for Mario Yepes, the outstanding defender who once wore the famous River jersey and who now plays in France for PSG. Does Rivas have the same qualities?? I understand from some of the comments I've read about him that he's very quick. Is he good in the air?? Is he physical?? Pibe #10 and EF9, the ball is in your court. :D

once can only dream of another Yepes or IRC, maybe a few Pibes and Angels would be awesome too... we have Falcao that can be the next Angel if he ever recovers from his injury(think he just needs the mental part).. we just need another Pibe in the midfield and we will be all set to return to the WC

Sinceramente, lo único de Yepes que tiene Rivas es haber jugado en el Deportivo Cali. Rivas es un jugador del montón, mientras que Yepes era casi que impasable cuando jugaba en el Cali y lo ratificó en River. Esa comparación ofendería mucho a Mario Alberto.

La verdad es que nunca he visto a Rivas jugar pero tiene que tener algo para haber quedarse en river, no creo que sea del monton. Tampoco estoy diciendo que va ser un Marcel Desailly pero si lo contrataron por un ano es por algo.

Si fuera asi de bueno como el mismo se autodenomina, hace rato huviera sido convoocado a alguna seleccion colombia. (ojala no me equivoque y lo hayan convoocado alguna vez como en esa gira rara por alla en europa antes del mundial).
En todo caso, ojala le vaya bien, pero lo dudo. No se como River se deja meter semejantes gatos por liebres. No escarmientan con haberse llevado a Jerson Gonzalez?

Los equipos grandes tambíén se equivocan en las contrataciones. Podemos mirar el caso de Arley Dinas a Boca Juniors, el de Secretario (lateral portugués) al Real Madrid, Edwin Congo al Real Madrid... y muchos casos que no es necesario citar. No quiero decir que sea un mal jugador, de hecho es cumplidor, pero nunca a la altura de Yepes. Es mejor que los hinchas de River no crean que han encontrado la segunda versión de Mario.

Con todo respecto, eso no significa que usted pueda ver el futuro. Que tal si este man la rompe y hasta deje mejor impresion que Yepes??? Yo creo que es mejor desearle que todo le salga bien al jugador para tener otro jugador de calidad para selecion. Por lo que veo es que el tiene muy buena cualidades.

I agree with Mr. Londono. It's not to say that he wont succeed BUT the truth is Rivas is no "special player". The Arley Dinas example was perfect. Rivas is physically a monster but he doesn't read the play very well in my opinion. He also fouls a ton. That Dep. Cali defense has been a joke for the last 2 years. If it wasn't for their agressive offense they would never win a game.

i am really hoping he succedds ... and alot of players are amazing in colombia but suck at argenitina or mexico like Toja and Rodagella... and some are ok in colombia and go away and are amazing like Mosquera and Chitiva who no one really liked but now should be in the managers radar....
hopefully he does well, like I remember it Angel got alot better at River he wasnt the same player b4 he left.I would really really love to have another Mario Yepes... and think everyone else in colombia would too
hopefully that gallego kid from boca can be the next patron along with Zapata and Perea we will have a monster of a defense like we always have.

Once again, he's not even a "promise" of Colombian football. He's ok. But not top material...even in Colombia.
And regarding Gallego...aweful. He has done NOTHING in this sub-20...No leadership. Bad clearences. Horrible at opposing team's set plays. Worst defense we've had so far.

our team is too offensive no one comes to help the defense and our left and right back keep going up to score.... so we basically just have 2 cb and the goalie...
look everyone did badly the game against uruguay... but yes this is prob the worst colombian defense i have seen since Copa Oro... but I am still pulling for them
I liked Gallego against Argentina ... against Uruguay not so much...
hopefully he refinds his game today against Ecuador... and eliminate them so we have one less team to worry about

you're right, nothing compares to that Copa Oro defense with Passo, Anchico, etc...
