The key is in the title.
What i was wondering was whether an attempt to get him out of retirement has been made? i have heard rumours that he declined. Its shame because he is not that old and has been one, if not the best englishmen this season.

What's the point, we have more attacking midfielders than we know what to do with. That is not England weak spot.

The problem is not midfielders. It's keepers and strikers. Robinson sometimes make Gabby "Gaffe" Kiraly look good. And superb finisher Wayne Rooney is played out of position. The other clinical finisher has had a knee problem and hasn't come back.
Meanwhile, a Colaship quality striker (Johnson) has been given a run-out, along with a guy who hasn't even scored many goals for England as Emile Heskey (Defoe). Darren Bent hasn't been given a fair chance yet, and neither has Dean Ashton.

The problem is clearly the midfielders and mainly the mess created by trying to force an overrated and inferior player (Lampard) into the side.

From a goal scoring prospective there is little or no difference between Scholes and Lampard, in their club careers they have both scored approximately once every four games, which incidently is slightly better than Gerrard who scores once every five games for Liverpool. For England Lampard has a slightly better strike rate than Scholes. So an evaluation of which of the two is a better player comes down to a midfielders other attributes i.e. defense, distribution and whether their games compliment their teammates. The argument really comes down to whether Scholes is a better fit with Gerrard than Lampard. Maybe so, but 10x better is a huge exaggeration and I would argue that the problem with the midfield is that neither Scholes, Lampard, nor Gerrard possess the vision and creativity of a Riquelme or a Zidane. None of the three is a true No. 10.

I think the problem is strikers, keepers and formations
Robinson sucks
Other then Rooney you dont have very good strikers or strikers that cant preform at the National team level.
The other problem is trying to fit Gerrard, Lampard and Hagreaves out on the field together.
Lampard needs someone behind him to cover for defence

At the risk of starting something off, when was the last time Rooney scored in a competitive game?
Leaving aside the fact he is injured at the moment. Michael Owen.

Would Darren Bent and Andy Johnson up front be too much to ask for this upcoming friendly?
Actually on second thought, I hope England destroys those racist bastards. I remember the first ever soccer game I watched with real passion was the last Spain vs. England friendly. The monkey chants, the racist jeering, I hate Spain.

Their too similar.
I think Defoe's in form and should be given another chance. His partner needs to be someone who's a good link up player, and to be honest if it's not Rooney....I think we're in trouble :(

Let's not tarnish their whole nation because of those morons.

Championship player in the sense that he is physical.

You never said that:
Meanwhile, a Colaship quality striker (Johnson) has been given a run-out"
How do you class Andy Johnson as a physical forward anyway?
So all physical players are championship players?
