Mine's Buddy Cianci:
Sandwiched some lesson-learning jail time between two stints as Mayor of Providence. Lived at the Builtmore. Knew election results hours before the local press. Made eery other weekend on the waterfront look (not smell) like Venice. Regular cameo on the tv show "Providence". Took over the Imus show whenever he was on it. Currently unjustly serving time in a federal prison for "fraud" and "racketeering". Like those are crimes. A musical and a James Woods narrated documentary have already been made and Russell Crowe will be playing him in the feature film.
Ted Kennedy is a close second, but it's been decades since he killed anyone that we know of and it's been six years since he gave that DNC speech which befuddled the close caption people.
What are some of your New England folk heroes?

Cetainly had the best porn mustache in Sox history. I also think he holds a few fried chicken eating world records.

It really sucks that the big dig didn't have one recognizable figurehead. He would have been tarred and feathered.

I have to agree totally with Buddy Cianci. If he moved to Massachusetts after his time in prison I'd vote for him to be Governor, at least then things would get fixed. The best about Buddy was that the public didn't care how things were accomplished, just that they were accomplished.

If you haven't already, read "The Prince Of Providence".
The great thing about Buddy is that he'll bounce back in some capacity. He had a very popular talkshow on 630 WPRO after his first stint in jail. He could get a sirus gig if he wanted to.
Other states have unethical politicians, but I highly doubt the Rowlands of the world could manage another go-round in the public eye.
Here's a question: Has Mumbles reached folk hero status yet? I love hearing some of his soundbites. I have trouble figuring out if he's eating a turkey club or a monte cristo during the clips.

Nah, you guys needed a mayor or governor saying "we just need another 20 million, this is the last time I'll ask, I swear" every few months to both congress and the tax payers for about seven years straight, all while taking kickbacks and doctoring the books.
Buddy would have done it for us and he would have looked good doing it.:)

If I could, I'd vote for Cianci. I always enjoy visiting Providence, the downtown area seems clean and alive, the riverfront is beautiful, and there is plenty to do. I really hope the redevelopment in Hartford pans out, because Providence is a good model to go by. I wouldn't mind living there.
My favorite folk hero would have to be...

CT native Brian Leetch.
Are you F'n kidding me? He was a new york sports hero for well over a decade.
Maybe the Trumbull pitcher for beating Taiwan, and then resurfacing at BC playing hockey and then a successful career in the NHL.
I consider Leetch a new yorker and my college friends from the metro area claim him as one of theirs.

I'd vote for Paul Revere or John Adams. But I think you're looking for someone more recent??

I was leaning towards someone more imfamous. Where was Hamilton from? He started the treasury, ran his mouth, and then had his head blown off in a duel.

Buddy Cianci... and Russell Crowe will be playing him in the feature film.
Some of the WORST casting in motion-picture history.

He's from New York (big surprise, eh?).
How about Roger Williams...without him we wouldn't have a Buddy Cianci!
