I just picked this article up from Fox soccer Channel's web site. Its saying that the organizers of the Aopa America are going to ban alcohol from the games. The following link will get you to the article http://msn.foxsports.com/soccer/story/6340432

My opinion is that the fans might not get as much enjoyment at the stadium, but maybe its a safety issue.

I wouldn't say maybe it's a safety issue.. It's a safety issue.. Certainly isn't an alcohol shortage issue..;)

Unless you want people burning down those nice looking stadiums I'd say it's a very wise move. :D

I thought it was the opposite,
that people would burn the stadiums for banning alcohol :D

Well maybe they'll be allowing pot in the stands like they did at the European Championships... Then the organizer stated he'd rather have a bunch of people smoking pot than a stadium full of drunks.. True..:p

Although that'd probably kill the atmosphere. :D

But think of the increase in food sales!

I found an old article on it.. The story was in all the papers and even on Fox Sports World Report when it happened so ignore the fact the story is from The Sun..
Cops in Lisbon plan to crack down on drunk supporters while turning a blind eye to those spotted puffing on a spliff.
Pot-smoking fans have been assured they will not be arrested, cautioned — or even have their drugs confiscated.
Last night experts said the Portuguese police’s “Here We Blow” policy would reduce chances of a punch-up between rival fans.
Alan Buffry of the Legalise Cannabis Alliance said: “If people are drinking they lose control, if they smoke cannabis they don’t.
“Alcohol makes fans fight. But cannabis smokers will be shaking hands and singing along together.”
Dutch police used a similar policy in Euro 2000 and England’s hooligan element were too stoned to fight.

I wonder if that would work on River/Boca fans when they play each other? ;)

I think it's a very stupid idea pot is not good for anyone neither is alcohol but what makes more money selling of $4.50 of a 12 fl oz cup of beer x 30,000 fans or the hit of a roach? You do the math.

I remember going to my 1st Liga game - Valencia vs Real Madrid - so , I'm at the concession stand, and pounded 3 beers --after all I wanted to get a good buzz in cheering on RM.

I noticed everyone around me was drinking soda or water. I remember thinking..."what big ********y's!, have a beer at least". Then, as I'm finishing off my last swig of my 3rd beer I noticed a small little label under the beer logo that read "non-alcohol".... wut a dope I was!!! .......but the game was at least fun to watch.

Guys, at the end of the day, you can get a good buzz at some of the nearby pubs/restaurants. This is after all Venezuela, so their will be plenty of cerveza "vendors" around the stadium.

Yeah, I really don't think it's a big deal... I actually think it's a wise move. People will go regardless to the stadium.

Its not as organized in South America as it is at MLS or european games.

First of all...the beer issue isnt a big concern. You can buy some chelas before the game and thats it.

trsut me on this one...you're not going to be thinking about getting smashed...you will be thinking about the game on the field and who's that shady guy eyeing my wallet ;)

Tip for you americans going to Venezuela...Drink around people you are comfortable with...at the stadium it will take you the first half to realize how lucky we have it here in the states. You will want to blend in...and being the loud american trying to get drunk is just going to call the wrong type of attention to your self.
