I don't see him wining either. I think that he has a lot of flash but not a ton of substance. And I don't think he really has any experience and its starting to show. I think he is going to end up like Dean, he is going to really shine in the earlier parts, but as it goes on he will start to fade.

I can't seem him winning any southern states if he makes it that far.
Obama has a better chance of winning southern states than Clinton does (unless she gets that faux accent better). In any event, a southern state is not necessary if you win Ohio.
My wife thinks that an Edwards-Obama ticket would be unbeatable, then again she is into Edwards's hair I think (damm my genetics and male pattern baldness!)

Why would white southerners vote for Obama over Hillary Clinton? That does not make sense.Obama's skin color is a huge disadvantage for him.

oh gosh, I forgot we still lived in the glorious all-white american dream of the 1950's!
There are always racists and certainly the horrible reminders of institutional segregation still exist, but nevertheless I think you underestimate the vitriol people have for Hillary and grossly overestimate the impact of race on the "southern" vote. Even though the stereotype that southerners and texans are racist country bumpkins is pretty funny (and sad), the reality is different - and encouraging.
Also you have to remember that sexism exists as well ;)

Yeah, that's true.I am still shocked that Obama might be on the Democratic presidential ticket. If he makes it then thats like throwing the presidency away.

Purely on skin color? Surely even the American electorate deserves some more faith :D Like I said, there are going to be some idiots who will vote republican because of his race, but they vote republican anyways - and probably go out every election year to keep out those durn liberals. As they teach in statistics, usually it's the most extreme opinions that are readily expressed in questionnaires and IMO voting is not much different (I forgot the specific term). So it's not a lost vote, because southern democrats and undecided voters have enough sense to look at the "issues" rather than his ethnic background.

I think the color of his skin is going to be the last thing people are going to be worried about. It may play in some small pockets, but I don't think most of those people would vote for a democrat anyways. Imagination and the way people voted for war funding I would think would be bigger issues.

If these polls/projections (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_legislative_election,_2007#Opinion_polls) are to be believed, the UMP is looking at a big majority in the National Assembly election.

last night in my sleep a song came to me, which may (or may not) be rooted in the new government... to a cat stevens tune:
oh police train, save this country,
send them all home again!
