Another thing that is stupid, aliens want to conqueror a planet that has rain which can kill them how realistic and smart is that.

Those of you who want to pick apart the movie because of plot holes -- that's fine. But keep in mind that no movie is ever perfect. I can't begin to count the number of times someone who's gone to a movie with me has said, "That would never happen in real life," or "The filmmaker forgot to explain X or Y." I say to them and I say to those of you who are picking apart "Signs" -- It's only a movie.
Realize the film for what it is -- a story about regaining lost faith. The whole alien invasion storyline is merely the backdrop for that plotline. When viewed through that lens, I thought the movie was very good, and I really like Shyamalan's work. I concur with everyone else who thinks that "Unbreakable" is underappreciated.

Exactly. This is very much like Night of the Living Dead. What kind of radiation would re-animate the dead? Why would head wounds or contussions de-animate them? Just enjoy the movie.

It was clearly stated that they had NO intentions of taking over Earth. They simply wanted to harvest human bodies.
Besides, the aliens are a small part of the movie. The big part is a mans struggle with faith and what leads him back to his faith. The aliens are used as a backdrop.

I think it was the fluoride in the water that did the damage. It's why the girl didn't like the taste. The aliens can handle water, as long as it has purity of essence.

Really, then why did it also work in the Middle East?

They figured out the post-war Commie conspiracy.

After hating Joaquin Phoenix's character as the Emporer in Gladiator, I friggin loved him in Signs. It's amazing how a movie can be frightening yet funny at the same time. I thought it was a great film and it kept me glued to the screen all the way.

I agree, Unbreakable was good and underappreciated. I think people didn't like the comic book aspect to it.
My thing with unbreakable is ... I think it could have been far better than what it was, even with the comic book junk left in. In fact, after I saw it all the way through, I sat there and thought of many more angles he could have taken to end it better ... One of which was dropping that crap where they flashed the words on the screen about how Jackson's character was arrested on x amount of terrorism charges, blah blah blah. He should have kept it open to add more punch. As it was, I was like 'That's pretty ************ing stupid."
I dunno. It all just rubbed me wrong in the end. Here, you have the very beginning of a 'superhero', and how he figures himself out and what he does about it. I think one of the main problems with unbreakable is it leads you down such a serious path of events and characters that seems rather believable that when you get to the villain-hero punchline, it's like a slap in the face. Almost as if the director had jumped out and said 'GOTCHA!' at the very end of the movie.
I would have loved this movie to have a better carry through, since I'm still waiting for a serious comic book take off to evolve. One that deals similarily with human nature and true human evil than what we've seen in recent years.
This one tried to capture that, but didn't succeed IMHO.

IMHO.
Unbreakable is an ambitious film. If the execution matched the ambition the movie would've been a masterpiece.

I agree. As much as I bitch about the shortcomings, the actual story line was not that flawed and was quite original, especially since he strayed down the path of 'drama' instead of 'action' as similar movies have done before.
I give him great props for tackling this in the manner that he did, but the finished product just leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.

I thought the losing/regaining faith aspect of this film was unconvincing. The loss of faith was explored only through two or three flashbacks and the renewal of faith rang hollow to me as it happened rather predictability and without a lot of apparent thought on the main character's part. Moreover, I agree with everyone else that the alien invasion plot device was poorly thought out (water/weapons/armor), and there must be better/more realistic trials of faith that could have been used to explore this theme.

That is exactly what I thought. Actually, I saw the movie on PPV with a friend who saw it before in the movies. And when I saw the ending I asked her if that was in the movie in the theaters. She said it was. I though maybe they put that stuff in the movie because of post 9/11. I really didn't think it belonged.
