6'4", 220 lbs? Wow.

I hope he can play and that his tryout goes well. :)

But do we have any tallocations left?

It would be nice to have another tall player on the team, especially one with heft. I'd like to see someone like Twellman try to push him or even better the little fishy... :)

The world doesn't need any more lawyers.

But we need a tall striker.

Finally, some hope that a game-worn jersey might fit.

They should be scouting kids in brazil as well, there's a ton of talent at very young age.

Santos is holding an 11 yr old who was playing around 9 yr olds when he was 6, I saw some videos of him at 6, 7 and 9, you'd be amazed, really nice shots from outside the box, free kicks, dribbling around everybody. I think he's 11 now, playing for their lower divisions, and making about R$10k per month (around US$4500 per month). At this age the money goes to the family, but anyway... typically young kids of course don't have a contract, but in order to hold the top players, they end up drawing up a contract. Santos has some other really good talent at the 13 and 14 age that I think are under contract and have an agent.

And in Rio, the botafogo U14 team took second place in 2006 and the 2 top scorers of the U14 state tournament were from botafogo, one with 16 goals and the top scorer with 35 goals at only 13 years of age.

Oh come on. Because he was a successful player at a non-Div. I school, he's bad? It is just a trial after all.

Try the decaf!

Hey, local talent cannot hurt DCU's political/stadium ambitions or ticket sales. People like that sorta thing.

Yes, it's truly a terrible thing that we are looking in places off the beaten path for players that might be able to contribute.

Mmm, student loan repayments. I'd go for DC. Law school admissions offices love people with interesting backgrounds so spending a few years in MLS wouldn't hurt his chances to go to law school one bit.

Williams won the Div-III basketball national championship a few years ago (2003?) but I expect it may have been before this kid got there.

Not if you look at this as Dana Leary v. David Stokes for defensive cover. Given that the "experts" missed Boswell, who played at a mediocre D-1 school and no one really knew about Dyachenko (who played at a truly sucky D-1 program), none of this bothers me a bit. Fairly smart, I'd say. Unless - you are concerned that Leary channels Hannibal Lecter and might eat Christian Gomez.;)
