Hola, ITN! Welcome home. Please put Pope Benedict back up. His smiling visage gives me endless comfort in these times of travail. Other than the silly letter play (really, i would think right thinkers would be above such tawdry foolishness) in what context do you relate Obama to Osama? As for politicians admitting recreational pharmacology, Both Bush and Obama are children of the '60s-'70s. Such activity was de-rigeur in the era. Do we really want to set as a standard for service being out of step with your generation? Or do we want people who are straight forward with who they (and we) are? The 'I didnt inhale' lie (Clinton) is weaker than avoidance lie (Bush) which is weaker than candor (Obama) Now, explain this Obama Osama stuff. P.S. Is the guy who said he sold Dan Quayle smoke still in solitary?
It was a stumble by Ted Kennedy that Rush Limbaugh jumped all over. He even made a song parody out of it.
There was also a stumble recently on CNN and I've heard it at least once during an interview on NPR. It is kind of an unfortunate name to have at the moment.
Damn, I must have boarded that Twilight Zone plane yesterday. Good thing I didn't have a window seat.
I'm just trying to decide if I'd rather take the place of Condi or Dick in that situation. And you know you can't help but think the same now.
The problem with ANY politician admitting he or she 'experimented' in the past is that...we have very stiff drug laws in this country. We throw people in prison for 'experimenting' and owning and selling and buying the stuff. I realize it's obvious, but then again...well, what are we going to do? Write off "youthful indiscretions" from the past while imprisoning people for indiscretions in the present?
Well, I mean what is the most recent activity that can be considered youthful indiscretion? For example, if a guy is 30, can he count stuff from when he is 25, or does he have to wait until he's 40? I just want to clear this up before I start admitting to things.
Sounds great. There are a couple things I'll have to hang onto for a week or two, but for the most part I'm cool with that plan.
I think if you are 30, then going to 25. After that, its age 30. If you are still doing stupid shit at age 30, you deserve to be called on it.
Yes. It's called a statute of limitations, and states have them for exactly this purpose. In addition, juvenile offenses are often punished, and sealed so that you essentially have a clean slate by the time you reach the age of majority. I believe that Obama admitted to some experimentation in high school. I would say that that would place him in a fairly significant subset of the population of high school students in the 70s.
I was a student living in London the year after I turned 30, and making frequent weekend jaunts to Dublin and Amsterdam. Surely, you would provide some sort of special dispensation that would allow a wide variety of stupid shit under the circumstances? If not, then call me on it.
