"Sky Sports reported on its Web site Wednesday that Onyewu arrived at Craven Cottage for a medical, a day after New England Revolution midfielder Clint Dempsey was reported to be awaiting a work permit to join the London club.

Eurosport.com said the deal was worth 1 million pounds (€1.48 million; US$1.96 million).

Onyewu's club Standard Liege left for a training camp in Portugal on Tuesday, but the 24-year-old defender did not travel with the team."

that's interesting. but $1.96 million??

That's a helluva steal if that's all they're having to pay for him, especially when Clint Dempsey is worth $4 million to Fulham.

AC Milan also in the mix (http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2007/01/03/sports/EU_SPT_SOC_Fulham_Onyewu.php)

La Dernier Heure said Onyewu had left for Italy, where he was to meet with AC Milan officials to discuss a possible transfer to the Italian powerhouse.

is this stuff still rumor or is there some fire now where there used to only be smoke?

and $2 million is definitely a steal - highway robbery if you can get away with it.

Ives Galarcep has also talked about it.

A move to Fulham would mean a possible partnership with Bocanegra. If that were to happen, you'd think it would pretty much lock them in as the first choice pairing for the national team.

If Gooch is really getting interest from Milan or Real, then you'd think that Fulham would have been long since priced out.

My bet is that he goes to Fulham.

McBride, Bocanegra, Dempsey AND Onyewu? That would be awesome.

Fulham would be a good fit. No certainty of starting or getting PT if you wander off to Madrid or Milan.

The attraction to Americans is probably in part lack of expense.

One thing worth noting: if he went to Fulham, he would be a work permit "appeals" guy just like Dempsey. My back of the envelope calculations say he played 12 times in 19 "A" games for the USMNT the past two years. That's below the 75% cap numerical standard, meaning he too would have to win an appeal.

Arena complicated the UK transfer chances of his players with his experimentalism.

Has Gooch been in Europe long enough to qualify for an EU passport ?

I wonder if Fulham are trying to have a monopoly on the US market?

I guess if Arsenal can be "That French team from Narf London." Than Fulham can be "That American team from West London."

My bet is that Gooch and Knight would be the first choice pairing. Not that it should be, but Cookie has a thing for Knight. Gooch's presence may actually hurt Boca's chances of getting playing time at CB for Fulham. Boca has been moved around a lot to the left and midfield, but CB is his best spot.

Would that make Bocanegra Atlantic, McBride Ventnor, and Dempsey Marvin Gardens?

Actually, as an after effect they could be come the most popular premiership team in the US. Therefore they could see merchandising revenues significantly increase here in the states. Probably enough to pay for the moves.

Gooch at Fulham would push Boca to the bench except (as he is doing now) in the case of injury. Boca would be their first back-up at CB, LB and D-mid.
