Dutchman van der Wall Bake, a sports management and marketing guru, said in a broadcast of the Dutch Business Radio that the FIFA is going to take the WC 2010 from South Africa and let the USA organize this WC.
What his sources are is unclear, but it must be music to your ears:)

Here we go again . . . seriously, it's a year too early for anything like this to happen.

This is the last thing I'm aware of that was stated in public regarding the situation after FIFA's visit.. Don't know how much it means, however..
"Not only is the country on time, but a bit ahead of Germany at the same time. We are happy with preparations and now it's for the Local Organising Committee to maintain the momentum,"

Someone in one of these posts/threads/discussions made the point that the U.S. is still too much of a security threat.
much of the world hates us (in some varying degree) some of those that hate us most are just over the boarder or otherwise still very near by.
We are at war and I highly doubt a war time nation will be hosting the world cup... its just not a smart move. if north america hosts i'de suspect canada has the best shot at it and it just won't be happening.
First choice if they have to look elsewhere is probably gonna be Australia... second choice, back to europe... England perhaps, maybe somewhere in scandanavia, Italy is always a choice or possibly Austria/Switzerland.
I highly doubt the cup will be moved from south africa. I hope they are prepared cause I think the world will finally see Africa out in force on the worlds largest footballing stage. I expect if south africa does host there could be as many as 2 african teams in the semi's and i expect no less than 3 or 4 in the round of 16. I really doubt any of them will get knocked out in the group stage but to be safe i'm saying 4 in the last 16.

we're not at war in the traditional sense of war...
it's low grade non state entity level...
and if some one wants to select a sporting event to inflict carnage, we have tons of events to select from...
and if you use that as a barometer, usa won't be hosting anything in the 21st century...
agree fully south africa will end up pulling it off....

I agree that the USA has a bad crime and security problem, but I do not even think for a moment that we are more dangerous than what i have heard from South Africa.
My uncle is the US Army Attache in Pretoria, and as we spoke with them over Christmas, he told us that in general, people in South Africa do not put out their Christmas presents until Christmas morning, because if they do, they are just asking for thieves to break into their houses and rob them.
You just don't hear that shit about houses in the US. Not even in the really bad parts of major US cities.
Now I agree that having the World Cup on US soil would be the perfect security nightmare for anyone in a security job and a dream for any terrorist who wants to have a stage to bomb.
I want the 2010 World Cup to remain in South Africa...I just don't think it will happen.

I think it would be easier for me to get tickets to see the US play in South Africa than the US. Seriousy.
If the WC is here, everyone and their brother will horde to see the US play. But fewer Americans will likely go to South Africa than Germany and I got to see them play in Germany, ergo, I think my chances of seeing them are better if the WC is there and not here.
At the end of the day, it's all about me...:p

Crime isnt an issue in the US with regards to a WC.
Yes it does occur, but generally its highly localized in areas tourists wont be.
Given the level of alert during a WC, i dont imagine security would be either.

He has a valid point. Bring them home TODAY!
The thread is about the WC coming to the US in 2010, there are about 10,000 Bush bashing threads in the Politics forum. That part of the post should be moved there and whether the point is valid is open to interpritation.

[QUOTE=Kaiser;10342805]
Why, for Allah's sake?:rolleyes:Yes.
By the way, the '94 WC had four or five WC games at RFK in DC, a city which had 399 murders that year. There weren't any crime-related problems. And things have calmed down a lot since then.
So as has been said, crime isn't a problem in the US as related to the WC...particularly when compared to South Africa.

Damn man. My bad. Been a long F'ing day.:o
Very sorry.
No prob, don't sweat it...
If by some miracle we do get the WC in 2010, to suggest that crime would be an issue(especially for those of us who have visited SA before), comparitively speaking, is, to quote Gnarls Barkley, "Crazy".
Could Australia host it on such short notice?

My bet would be somewhere in Europe they have all the stadiums and infrastructure for something on short notice. Not sure Australia has enough forums large enough. Guess thats what would make the US a nice choice just never gonna happen.

We may not be at war in the traditional sense but I think we are still at risk for a major terrorist attack and that would scare fifa away from us. no matter what spin we put on it I don't think the world likes the U.S. ... i don't think FIFA likes the U.S. and when you combine the two... they can easily turn their heads further to the east than us.
I had no intention of nudging the thread into politics as deep as it went, but they certainly play a factor in it all. And even if FIFA is forced to consider us as a host in the near future they will refer to our political state as a strong reason for turning us down.
I don't think crime is as bad as it is in south africa... I don't think crime on the upper class is bad in the U.S. at all when you compare it to many nations around the world. If you start to compare it to other nations that might be considered as world cup hosts, we're probably a little worse off but not staggeringly bad... worst that would happen i think is a footballer get's pick pocketed in new york.
Hell they might be safer since no one will recognize them.

now i be the wrong person to comment since i dropped out of terrorism school after only 2 years, but it seems to me a terror attack at the world cup would be the most idiotic thing possible....any game, or place an attack would occur at during the wc would kill/ injure 100's/ 1000's of people from countries other than the U.S......giving whatever countries involved a reason to join the fight....i mean unless you're going to set a bomb off at a france v switzerland match you're going to piss off a lot of people who will in turn most likely come after you.....seems an nfl or mlb game would be a much better target
