Brasileiro 2nd Division 2003 - "Segundona" [R]

What are Lusa and Palmeiras doing in the 2nd div.? How did this happen. I haven't followed the Brazilian league for a while but just a few years ago both these teams were doing quite well.

Not just Lusa and Palmeiras, but Botafogo also went to the second division.... Last year's championship were really contested, with few points between the ones qualed to the playoffs and the down line.... Unfortunately, since Parmalat left the club, Palmeiras is no longer the club it once was, and Palmeiras fell, the same way as Botafogo and Lusa, who were always fighting in the last years against the last positions... This is just to show that the smaller teams aren't that smaller anymore and the "big" teams needs to pay attention.... At last, I think Palmeiras and Botafogo CAN qualify to the first division this year.... But don't count on it, Botafogo was off the rio championship playoffs, Palmeiras lost to the rivals Corinthians 4X2 on a game that could easily end up 6X2(sao paulo championship playoffs), and yesterday Palmeiras was beaten 7X2 in home by Vitória.... sounds like things are getting ugly and ugly to these teams.....
Just to remember.... Lusa fought against downfall in Paulistas Championship.... enough said

Thanks. I saw Botofogo on the list and assumed it was Botofogo (SP) and not the Rio squad.
Let's hope all three could make it back to the "A" championship. All three teams have lots of history and fans that have stuck with them.

Nice run by Botafogo. They continue to lead Série B with 31 pts., followed by Palmeiras with 29 pts. While Palmeiras has been somewhat shaky in the last games, Botafogo has having an almost perfect campaign. I see them returning to Séria A next year.
