Robinson just isnt very good. His footwork is clumsy and he barely ever seems to dive or jump to any great effect.
He has very good aerial distribution and is a very good shot stopper, provided he doesnt have to dive too far.
Therein lies the conundrum over whether to encourage Robinson's pie eating - sure the more pies, the bigger the target to avoid. On the downside, the more pies, the harder it is for him to drag his ass from one side of the goal to the other

A Huge upgrade from Calamity James though, including the categories of heart and desire..

Im yet to be convinced. What did James do for England that was so wrong? I cant think of many, if indeed any, costly mistakes in crucial games. He got caned left right and centre for the Denamrk friendly but he was just the scapegoat IMO.
I rememeber him pulling off a fantastic save at Villa Park against Turkey when it was still 0-0
What makes you think Robinson is more passionate than James?

Is this a joke?
The calamity tag was given for a very good reason.
Yes. We all know that he is a good shot stopper, but that's about all he's good for. The defense infront of him were constantly scared he'd do something stupid, and he often did so. Flapping at crosses and running out to get a ball from an attacker he was never going to reach, were some of his specialities.
Letting in a last minute goal against Austria and Tripping up Henry for a blatant penalty in Euro 2004, is the tip of a very small iceberg when talking about his errors. Consistency was definitly not his middle name.

Why are English keepers not any good though? It makes no sense.
Is it because the England don't use their hands in as many sports as the USA?

Yeah but how many cricket/rugby players also play football? Not very many. The point is a US GK might be playing American football/basketball as a secondary sport along with being a GK.
I remember when I lived in Birmingham I was complete crap when I played football and when I would go play with the local boys they would stick me in goal because no one wanted to play there, I made so many saves they were amazed. I was surprised because I was used to stopping catching much harder balls from American sports. Balls that an English GK would normally punch away I would catch.

I think James used to get too much critiscm. Never in his career has he had a prolonged spell playing behind a solid defence. That said he is not a goalkeeper I could trust, but then again neither is Robinson.
Tripping up Henry for a blatant penalty in Euro 2004, is the tip of a very small iceberg when talking about his errors.
That wasnt his fault, it was Gerrard's.
Consistency was definitely not his middle name.
This season he has been considerably better than Paul 'consistency' Robinson.

Seaman was good. The 2002 Brazil gaff being the exception.

What makes you think Robinson is more passionate than James?
The amount of desire and effort he puts into every game he plays for England. Calamity played like he didn't even care at times. Made half-hearted attemps at saves. He was Sven's pet. It must have taken everything he had to finally sit James down on the bench. Robinson is not World Class by any means, but at least when he puts on the England kit, it means much more to him than just status..

Robbo's form has dipped in the last year. But it would have to dip a whole lot further to even consider replaing him with green, kirkland, carson or foster. james is not an opition. he is the biggest liability i have ever seen in goal, he is thick as shit and accident prone. he also has problems concentrating when playing in big matches, the only so called player that i have ever seen do this.

You're partly right. Americans are generally crap at football. But admit it, we have better keepers than you.
