Wouldn't I love to sit on that jury :)
Don't get me wrong I'm not a fan of any of the play by play guys, although I probably could have lived with Edwards...but doesn't MLS notice that everyone Keough works with ends up on the unemployment line? Can the problem be Keough?MLS has to let this clown go, his chatter about stupid facts he reads on the internet are not only annoying but constantly come at the wrong time, and are mostly unrelated to what is going on. How can MLS justify Keough now that they have several retired MLSers that have actually kicked a ball in the last 50 years? Peter Vermes once did play by play for Fox and he wasn't bad....then again it doesn't take much to be better than TY.JP is top notch for an American in my book, but Keough seems to bring his quality down too. If MLS is listening tell Keough to shut the hell up during the game and add his two cents only when the ball is out of play...or cut down on the costs altogehter and do like the Europeans use a one man crew...its not like he adds anything to the game...
I think I'm going to start a down with Ty Keough web page...

An MLS person once told me that they know Ty is at best boring and at worst annoying but they keep him around because he doesn't criticize the league, its strucutre, its executives, its coaches, its players, its refs, its crowds, and that's just the way they want it.
While most of us think a straight from the hip analyst like a John McEnroe or Tim McCarver would be good for MLS broadcasts, the league wants someone who doesn't take a stand because they don't want that stand to be against them.
Ty is boring but he's no dummy and as long as that's what they want, he's gonna give it to them so that he can keep his sweet little fifedom of soccer announcing.

Before I post I just would like to remind everyone of what an ardent supporter of Jack and Ty I have been over the past year. But last night I was watching the US-Costa Rica qualifier in KC, remember Mathis "Hand of God"?
In watching that tape, it is comical to hear Ty say "Mathis possibly touched the ball with his hand", over and over again while the replay is playing. All US Soccer fans know we got a break on that goal and it was coming for us after the Saprissa/Predergast fiasco.
Anyway that is the most classic Ty moment for me.
Ty is still great, maybe he isn't the best but I'm glad we have an announcer that at least knows and loves the game.
Remember the days of Roger Twibell?

It is a strange situation where we have the play by play guy who is the one with humor and color and we have the so called "color commentator" who has no color / no humor .
I agree with those who believe that Ty has basically ruined two announcers already (Schoen and Edwards) so although I love JP, I didn't want to see him paired with Ty for the entire season lest Ty ruin him as well. It will be interesting to see how Rob Stone will be affected since he isn't really a traditional announcer to begin with.
I have to believe that once Lalas retires he will be the one in the booth in Ty's spot. But for now after 8 seasons I can pretty much watch the game and not really hear anything Ty says. I think I have developed a protective filter.
The best would be JP and Tommy Smyth but I doubt that will happen. At least they are back together doing Champions League games.

Sandon - you may be right, but I have to believe MLS would want someone who can help inspire interest in the league and the game.
Boring may be safe but its not gonna attract new fans/viewers. I bet you 4 out of 5 of MLS biggest fans would like to see Ty gone. Ty is a nice guy and good human being and would be great to drink beer with, I'm sure. But as a TV guy he bores the socks off me.
That is why I wish MLS made more of an effort to hire someone who inspires interest like a Max Bretos. Max on ESPN would be great for the league. People love him. People hate him. They turn down the sound, they listen to him just to complain about him. And heads turn when he yells out "Goooaaaalll" - at least my 5 year old and 1 year old turn.
He would be a lightning rod for the league. Like zico3 said - most just ignore Ty. There is no fate worse than being ignored. And I GUARAN-DAMN-TEE you a Max goal call would make the ESPN Sportscenter top 10 plays of the day.
