IMHO this a selection of players who can be considered to be international level at either under-21 or full team.
there are afew other under 21 candidates but didnt wanna overdo it.

if macca cant mould a decent team from that bunch he truely is a clown.

Didn't realise we had so many full backs.

A lot of good players mentioned.

Nice thread..

I would like to add Matthew Etherington and Taylor as left sided depth chart additions, since Stew Downing is left off your list, and with good reason..

The further up the pitch the weaker the talent gets.

You could play Downing if you had someone with pace on the opposite wing. The lad's as good a crosser of the ball as Beckham but like Becks he's also unable to beat a man. A Fast winger will force the back line deeper allowing him more scope to cross.

I wouldn't have SWP or Jenas on there. I dont understand why Jenas is picked so often for the bench.

The thing is, Downing's significantly faster than Beckham ever was, IMO. His pace alone lets him beat poor fullbacks, but he doesn't have the guile to do it against better ones, and he doesn't seem to adjust his style of play accordingly. I agree though, he could be effective, and he's currently the best crosser in the England side.

why is barry listed as a fb?

if anything his best position is a central mid or left sided mid

Taylor should be centre back. Could possibly consider Matty Taylor as left back, although he often players further forward.

Barry is either left back or left midfield.

I think the only people missing in that list for me is Robert Green and Lee Naylor.

I agree that we get weaker the further we get up the park. We have no real DMs, few quality wingers, too many attacking midfielders, and no world class strikers.

Downing wouldn't get onto any top international or club team, that just about says it all as far as our depth goes.

Yo imange an England without Wayne Rooney. I don't like the guy that much but I got to admit I feel more secure if his in the starting line-up. We need another world class foward (other than the One Knee Boy Wonder) badly.

I think if Maca was smart he would build the team around Wayne Rooney and stop trying to find out a fancy way to play both Lampard and Gerrard.

Can some please tell my why we can't string 4-5 passes together in a single game.

When Hargreaves gets back into the starting 11, things will start clicking.....Of course, Michael Owen up front ahead of Rooney, will make it that much better. J. Cole and Aaron Lennon on the wings. Gerrard playing behind Rooney in the midfield. Why can't Mc Sven see what he has, and how to properly use them? I am tired of the continuing, "there is no depth at left wing". If McSven had the nerve, he has plenty of options to call up. Matthew Taylor, and Matthew Etherington could both play that side. You also have Downing, and of course J.C.

Gareth Barry should definetly be in. He's versatile and has a real never say die attitude.

Looking at the strikers we have is becoming painful. The only combination I can see that could function effectively without Owen and Rooney is Ashton (when fit) and Defoe. One of our biggest problems is that our strikers really aren't getting much experience either in the international or European club games, which can sometimes prove invaluable.

Aaron Lennon and SWP are both quality wingers. World class strikers? I'm pretty sure Wayne Rooney is a world class striker and if Darren Bent could move to a bigger club where he could be surrounded by quality players, he would be world class also.

The only nations that have better strikers than England are Brazil, Germany, Italy and France.

Barry needs to build up his confidence. He has played LM to LB to CM to CDM... He was put everywhere to try and help Villa last year but he couldn't do it all.

Fabrice Muamba has been class for Birmingham all season. I'd rather have him over the likes of Jenas and Dyer.
