Pickens is fairly new on the US soccer scene , but he had some amazing performances for the Fire , and was probably the best goalkeeper in MLS the last two-three months of the season.

I would love to see him get his first cap versus Denmark.

Pretty new on the scene. Only 15 professional games under his belt, but I think he proved well enough to be called in.

Galaxian, I concur. Pickens looked unreal in the games I saw him in - I clearly thought he was the best keeper I saw in MLS last year. Or should I say, I remember him making more impressive saves than any other keeper. I guess he could have issues with crosses, distribution, etc. And he didn't impress in the shootout in the playoffs. I guess I haven't seen enough of him just yet.

But as a shot blocker, this kid is a stud!

pickens is still on the outside looking in in the near term...

howard and hahnemann are tops....

there's a group of mls guys, still sorting themselves out...

and seitz, has long term potential, perhaps NOT this wc cycle

I would add Guzan to the list also.
We have some pretty good young options again.
I still don't think any are better then Big Bad Brad though.

Please don't forget the almost always forgotten Adin Brown.

This guy hasn't been given an adequate chance in my opinion. He would have gotten a look already if not for injury woes.

I guess when somebody's in Norway, it's out of sight out of mind.

true, brown is in the mix....

there's lots of guys, and performance ON the pitch will prove out...pickens had a solid season, hence the call to replace guzan is fine....

longterm, i'm a seitz fan though

I saw him in a late-season game between DCU and Chicago.. we were all very impressed with him.. tall, gangly kid, but certainly was up to the task.

I'm glad to see Pickens called in so soon because i was afraid he might be considered still "unproven," and i think this will really help his chances to be on one of this summer's rosters...but i hate the fact that it's at the cost of Guzan.

Guzan got injured following the MLS GA trip to England.

Pickens' shortcoming is ball distribution. He is an amazing shotblocker, and showed good instincts last year coming off his line. But I've always considered him a candidate for one of those blooper videos where some poor slob goalkeeper accidently throws a ball into his own net.

p.s. - I forgot to add - I'm very happy to see this news.
