The only way I figure that I will be able to get a ticket is if I go through my inside source.

Right now, my target is the Blackburn match on April 12th. What is the best way to go about securing tickets ahead of time? I would hate to book a flight, spend all that money, and end up watching the match on TV. Pretty sure that would be devastating.
A little trick that has been used before, get your tickets from Blackburn, they only bring about 7000 supporters and they always have loads of tickets left. 2 years ago the awayend was like the kop with just a few Rovers fans in the middle.

here's a more general situation. my brother and i are planning the cliched young american pilgrimage to europe this august. we know we want to spend most of the time in the UK but we have our sights set on rome and deutschland. our agenda is completely wide open so where we fly in from america really doesnt matter (as its pretty easy to move around once you are there i hear). where is the cheapest place to fly into from the US?
cheers...

Tricky question, really. I go once or twice a year and it depends on the airline. Last time I looked SAS were having a sale They were nearly 100 bucks lower than anyone else. You just had to go through Copenhagen, a real hardship...!?
Last Oct I got a flight to Manchester $125 less than the London flight, even though I used the London flight first. Yeh!
Then last spring I went with KLM through Amsterdam...Well you get the picture. Just keep checking Cheaptickets, expedia et al. and stay away from peak periods.
If you want a bit of Europe look at SAS, KLM or Lufthansa.

So I had lunch with a friend today and we're seriously thinking of flying across the pond to see a match at Anfield (we live in DC). Most likely games at this point would be seem to be March Sat. 21 v Aston Villa (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/team?id=362) & April Sat. 18 v Arsenal. (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/team?id=359)
I've got family in the area and can talk to them but I wanted to ask if anyone had any advice on what seats to get (am currently thinking the Kop or midfield), on how to go about purchasing tickets or anything else.
Thanks in advance,
Erik

Guys I'm planning a Euro trip for next September and will only be in England for a few days. Does anyone know how hard it is to get tickets to a match? Any tips?
Cheers

Answers throughout this thread. Obviously, the less inportant the match the easier the ticket. The Scum or the Bitters very hard and or expensive. Wigan, Hull or say Fulham -- easier. You can try through official means but its difficult, use the swap site at the Red and White site, engage a ticket service, or stand out on Walton Breck Road with a lot of cash. I've done all of those! You can also beg here and see if anyone's got a connection for a ticket.

If you can, get on the Kop. The Main and Centenary stands give good views of the match, but the atmosphere isn't the same. Not as much singing, more sedate. The Anfield Road home end was fun when I sat there, as we were close to the pitch, could watch the Kop the whole day without missing the game, and could hear and join in the singing better than high up in the Main Stand.

I am going for the last game of the season against Charlton, I am also visting my kids who are spread out around the country. Arrive Manchester on Friday, go to Anfield Sat, Monday fly to Heathrow $66 BMI, vist my Daughter, wedensday Fly to Edinburgh $72, Vist my son, play St Andrews, Mon fly to JL $70. Wed fly back to the States. total travel = $208 each flight is about an hour. Trains are so expensive as is the price of gas. Check out bmi, they do oneway and are cheaper then BA.
I once flew from London to Manchester on BA for 12 quid a few years ago. Had plenty of Carlsberg on the flight.
You may want to look into staying in, God forbid, Manchester, if you're looking for more & cheaper hotel options, especially if Scum are out of town for the weekend.

When I went to Liverpool- we got a cheap rate for the Dolby Hotel which is down near the docks- we had a car- as we were doing the whole of England thing- as well as going to little out of way places to see relatives.
(If anyone needs help around the Suffolk/Ipswich countryside- let me know! :D )
Got out to the ground- not for a game though which is why we drove- and it is piss easy to find just by following the street signs.
AussieLFC- if you are talking around Sept 2009- then we might be there around the same time. We're tossing up between April & September- all depends on how our little baby progresses- at the moment- its looking later rather than earlier!

But if all you can get into is the Main Stand- I'd still take that! ;)

Hoping to catch a trial match somewhere in Europe!

I believe you can still do the Museum/Stadium tour then.

Yes that's my plan!
I'll be travelling up from London for the day....
Anyone have any idea of the best way to travel bus/train and how long it takes to get there?
