Thanks for the links, but I'm not finding anything available those nights nearby. Those looked great though. I have found availability out by the airport at a pretty good rate. (Of course, we were planning on taking the train from London, not plane.) I'm assuming that a cab ride from the airport to City Centre and/or Anfield wouldn't be too expensive. Or maybe there are busses available?

Next time, I won't wait nearly as long.

I took a flight to Manchester from Seattle 2 years back. It was $100 cheaper than the flight to London but you actually took the same London flight and and an add on Manchester.....Go figure!

Check them all, one of my latest trips was SEA through Amsterdam to Man. Good flights to. It's fun taking different carriers.

Got these for your weekend in an inquiry on the icLiverpool site.

I am afraid you may have picked Grand National weekend for your trip and lots of people will be in town to go to Aintree.

Thanks for all your help. Grand National explains why everything is so booked up. I have found a room at the Holiday Inn Express out by the airport for a good rate. It's a new hotel as of October 2006 and seems nice enough. So I'm all set there.

I do have a question re: trains. Has anyone gotten a rail pass? I've looked at the train rates for getting from airport to London and from London to Liverpool and it's almost as much as a pass. I have another week after the game and planned on doing some other sightseeing so I think the pass might be worthwhile.

If you do use a pass, do you have to reserve your tickets ahead of time or can you get them the day of? Also, is there a big difference between 1st and 2nd class?

No pass experience. I booked my train about this far in advance and got a damn good rate. I treated myself and went first class on Virgin -- smked salmon, eggs and toast for breakfast each way.

I'm assuming that a cab ride from the airport to City Centre and/or Anfield wouldn't be too expensive.

To the city centre in the middle of the day will set you back about 12 quid.

You can get the No. 500 'Airport Express' Bus straight into town. Leaves the airport every 15 minutes. Costs about £4.50 if I recall correctly.

From the city centre to Anfield you can get the No 27 bus. On matchdays it's always full of fans, can be a good laugh.

As to getting to London, don't omit flying from John Lennon down to one of the London airports when selecting your choice of travel. It can be a lot cheaper to fly - and it's obviously quicker.

I am going for the last game of the season against Charlton, I am also visting my kids who are spread out around the country. Arrive Manchester on Friday, go to Anfield Sat, Monday fly to Heathrow $66 BMI, vist my Daughter, wedensday Fly to Edinburgh $72, Vist my son, play St Andrews, Mon fly to JL $70. Wed fly back to the States. total travel = $208 each flight is about an hour. Trains are so expensive as is the price of gas. Check out bmi, they do oneway and are cheaper then BA.

Thanks Matt and Stan. Bus to Anfield sounds like fun. I'll look into flying, which I hadn't considered. I can't believe how cheap those fares are.

Thats Ok if you double the pound rate for $s ie 2 for 1 then you will see that a flight to Manchester from Heathrow is 36, or $72. Good luck, hope this helps.

Thanks for all your help so far. I've got all the major details of my trip sorted, now I'm looking for the little things that will make the trip. Like, what pubs are recommended for pre-match drinks? I've heard of The Albert, of course, but are there others that are worth a stop? Of course I'll stop in the HJC shop and visit the Hillsborough Memorial. But other things around the ground that are must-see or do's? We have reservations for stadium/museum tour on Sunday.

As for the game itself, how early before the match do the gates open? When do the players warm up? (Yes, truly dorky, but I would like to see that.)

In Liverpool itself, we'll probably have an afternoon and a morning free. What other things are on the must see list? Any great places to eat? Places to drink?

We leave in just under three weeks! I can hardly wait!

All -

I'm heading to Manchester over a 2 week period in May when LFC plays Charlton in the final match of the season. What are the chances I can buy a single ticket for the game and where do you recommend I do that? Thanks in advance.

Cheers.

See you there. I am using a friends season ticket and it took a lot of persausion to get it. The last home game is always sold out.
Try Rawk.com on the ticket exchange or wait outside, scalping is not frowned on in the UK. (Would'nt make it my first choice) You could ring the stadium to see if any are left over, not a lot of hope, but worth a try.

hi,

don't know if this is the right thread, but I don't know where else to put my questions...^^
I'm turning 18 in september, so my parents want a special present for my and my biggest dream is to go to anfield once next season, before they are moving...
so can you tell me if there is any chance to get tickets without being a member and except of things like ebay?? do they have something like "viagogo" like bayern munich has it, where you can buy tickets from supporters who doesn't need their seasonticket for a match?!
would be great if you could help me...

Yeah I saw that - I guess I'll need to wait until the 19th with fingers crossed.

Many thanks and enjoy the match.

But I heard there are complete trips to Anfield (flight, hotel, tickets...)?! Does anyone have experiences with it or know where to book such trips?!

My friends and I are planning a trip to the UK this winter. We're hoping to go to Anfield to see a match during that time as well. Do you think it's too late to purchase a ticket for a home match? Would we be able to purchase them at the box office a few days before the match?

Your thoughts/advice?

I'm planning my own little pilgrimage to Anfield from the US as well, looking at flights and whatnot, but my greatest concern is getting tickets for the match.

Right now, my target is the Blackburn match on April 12th. What is the best way to go about securing tickets ahead of time? I would hate to book a flight, spend all that money, and end up watching the match on TV. Pretty sure that would be devastating.

I would really appreciate any help with this!

Tickets are hard to come by. That far off you could try and see if the Hospitality Seats are all taken. Most of the big games sold out the first day. RAWK can work for a ticket exchange. I have used ticket services but they come and go and are very expensive. Or you can try to buy on the street at the game.
