The Eski trade has really ticked me off...not just because I like him but because it's following a disturbing trend...trading away good young American talent for questionable South American talent.

Eski, Adu, and Quaranta have all left us in recent months....only to be replaced by a worthless Donnet and the mystery forward and mid from South America.

Do you really believe an unwanted forward from some South American team is better than Eski (who's just been called up) or that some partial starter for a team like River Platte or Boca JRs has more potential than Quaranta. Please!!!!

Management discovered gold with Gomez and now they seem to me...wayyy to enamored with South American talent. I watch MLS because I want to see young AMERICAN talent...not a damn South American team with players that are only here for a stable paycheck.

I think Quaranta had tons of potential. He just never did anything else but have potential. And he's an asshat.

Wow, really full of the Holiday spirit today. Guess you don't like Moreno, and before that Etch, RDA, Sonora, Gori, et al.? Geesh. I pay money to see forwards put the ball in the net and they can be from Mars as far as I'm concernd. Esky didn't put the ball in the back of the net on a regular basis, so he's gone. Maybe his replacement will be better, who knows? That's half the fun of it.

Are you seriously complaining about a pro soccer team scouting for soccer talent in Brazil and Argentina?

I think he is. Maybe we should try the Faeroe Islands.

I think it's fair to say that foreign players turn out to be pretty big gambles. Our last 3 players from Argentina are a shaky defender, a forward let out of his contract because he didn't play, and a midfeilder whose option wasn't picked up.

I realize there are successes and failures of both Americans and foreigners, but I think the failure rate is probably larger abroad.

If we look in the Falklands, there may be some Argentinian influence, but its still run by the British, right? Then everybody can be happy! :D

They had decent reasons for moving Eski, Adu and Quaranta (my pick for the biggest waste of talent). They didn't assimilate for various reasons.

As far as these South American forigners get over it A-hole. They by and large raise the bar for the league and more importantly DC United. That includes making the Americans around them better.

Etch, Moreno and Gomez are a part of the backbone of DC United past and present. I don't see that as anything but a great thing.

Maybe we should build a fence along the border. That might keep the South Americans out.

Oh, wait. This isn't the politics forum? :D

Thx,

Jay!

Don't think you can say it any better that. Could care less where they're from as long as we win.

Well, the sample size is much smaller. The numbers of 'homegrown' players is grossly inflated by all those fourth-round Superdraft picks and so forth, as well. Nobody frets when a guy from a nearby college making the league minimum craps out.

OF COURSE foreign players are a 'bigger gamble'--you have to go to greater lengths to find them and sign them, if nothing else.

Also, dismissing Erpen as a "shaky defender" is really off the mark, IMHO. He's young, talented, and will only get better with experience. And under different circumstances, I'm not so sure Filomeno would be gone.

Good to see you have your priorities straight. Stupid me watches just to see our TEAM compete. I hope the team makes you happy and uses an allocation on some second string goalie from East Bumfck State University.
