I don't think the sky if falling, but I am hella concerned about what is going on right now. I trust Payne and those guys, but I just wish things were developing a little faster.

Don't they have to wait until the "January transfer window" to officially make our new signings? Or does that not apply? I suspect that is a part of why we're not hearing official word on who is coming with our allocations.

I trust KP at this point. I think dumping Freddy and his big bucks salary was a great move. It didn't make any sense to have Nick ride the pine with his big salary either. Losing Prideaux is no biggie. And while Esky did bring some energy to the field he hasn't done much since the injury in terms of production. So getting part of an allocation for him is yet another great move. I don't think losing Nowak will be such a big deal in the end either. It was getting to be time for a change there as well and with Soehn there's plenty of continuity.

I like that they are making some moves and changing things up. The team really faltered in the second half last year, and frankly even during the long unbeaten streak there was a whole lot of good luck saving us from losses. Why would we want to hang onto all the parts of a team that underperformed?

At this point change will be good for us.

I had a post and deleted it.

The gist was... do we need a third thread?

Maybe I'm too close to the Marlins, but this stuff looks like a bigtime salary dump.....

Nah. Totally different situations. The only "big time" salary was Freddy's, and I think the league was picking up some of that. I'm fully expecting some acquisitions come January. (but still verrrrrry nervous about what's to come)

I don't get why we have to wait until January to acquire someone?

Real Salt Lake has acquired Freddy and it's not January.
Toronto just acquired Eski.
Seems like if we tried, we could acquire someone too.

Its called the January transfer window. Were looking to bring in guys currently OUTSIDE of MLS. We can wait another week, I fully expect KP to bring in two solid SA's.

MLS players contracts are owned by MLS, not the individual teams. Thus movement thru MLS doesn't get affected by the transfer rules.

Only players outside of MLS who have a current contract have to wait for the transfer windows in January and August. Players out of contract can sign at any time.

Guess one thing I'm a little concerned by is the fact that we have signed NOBODY so far. Even if we'd traded Prideaux for a journeyman or gotten a second string defender as part of the Alecko deal I'd have some sense.

Magic additions and rookies will need to carry this team if Jaime and Christian don't have MVP years, and right now that looks scary to me.

And who's our "locker room guy"?

And who's our "locker room guy"?

I think Olsen has always been this guy, but now it is probably time for Boswell to really step up into that spot.

I think the nerves are a result of you guys not having to deal with so much roster change in recent years. In fact since Nowak has been in charge DC has had some remarkable roster stability in MLS.

Now they need to shake it up a bit and its natural for fans to get on edge about moves, especially when the final product isnt known yet.

But in reality DC is still very much the same. You stil have the core of the team in Moreno, Gomez, Olsen, Gros, Boswell, and Perkins. The only real loss was Adu, who despite some critisism is a very talented player.

If your roster still looks like this in late January i wouls start to panic, but i doubt that will happen and DC will very much look like a force on papaer come CONCACAF CC time.

"What the Hell is going on out there?" - Its called getting ready for January - We still got the Heart & Core of our team and MLS best Keeper & Defender and MVP

Why didn't we trade Moreno? - He's more valuable to us with Gomez than other teams would be willing to pay for him - His productivity with other teams would be far less than with us and the other teams know this

Why didn't we trade Olsen? - Maybe they did look around, but the asking price was quite high - Again, value to other teams is what determines the price, not the value to us

Why didn't we trade Gross/Simms/Namoff/etc? - They're really good role players for us, but they're not high profile - What could we get for them? - And after selling Prideaux, we're lacking depth

Kevin Payne (or anothe FO type) said in the Post article about selling Esky that this was the last - Now they have the resources to get and pay for the players they have in mind

I'm not expecting anybody with instant name recognition - Players with a lot of upside but who are not big stars from Brazil or Argentina - And from Europe? - Well, maybe a dis-contented 30 yr-old player who's facing time on the pine - WHAT? - Why bother with another olllddd player? - If he can still produce and be effective most of the time for 2-3 yrs then so what? - Thats longer than anybody we've sold so far
