Well they were both dogshit yesterday.
Arf ... if you were more one-eyed about protecting little Frankie from the inescapable deficit between him and Gerrard you'd need some form of optic implant to stop you from banging into things. Depth perception must be a real issue for you. To be honest I am beginning to suspect acute man-crush issues here. It may be necessary for you to go and fellate a sailor or something, to stop this from becoming a truly debillitating affliction.

You could say that about any captain on any winning side, even if he scored 3 own goals, missed 10 sitters and stabbed a fan.
No you couldn't.

It's funny how club bias only applies to everyone but one's self

I mean, come on. If you're reduced to hoping that a Liverpool supporter would be in any way concerned by being called "shit" by a Yank Chelsea "fan", then you have effectively admitted defeat, taken your ball and run home as fast as your piggy little legs can carry you.
Amusing for me though! :D
And for many others. Repped.

Hmmm, except I have no need to resort to club bias in this particular discussion, do I? What with me and the entire world outside of the Chelsea fanbase being in agreement.
Look back over the thread, or better yet help yourself to the accumulated mass of informed and/or expert opinion from the many media sources that have chosen to comment on this matter. Or ponder the weight of public opinion, the raft of commentary from fellow professionals. Hey - perhaps even have another pop at making your brain compute what your eyes are telling it. Assuming they are, that is - maybe both eyes and brain are at fault here. I've never actually considered that you might be blind as well as thick. If you are, then I almost feel guilty and will offer you a partial but entirely heartfelt apology.
You have options, in short. But one thing you should really not do is continue trying to keep the limp and croaky fantasy that Lampard is better than Gerrard alive beyond its natural time on earth. That's just cruel. Let it die in peace, with some dignity remaining, before the merciless onslaught of objective reality robs it of even that.
Have a heart, man.

You speak for the world? Interesting...
Hard to compute anything when the evidence is there, Lampard just produces more at any level

No, clearly I don't. As I've said - I don't need to. The world has spoken for itself - loudly and clearly. But given that you look at Lampard and see a superior footballer to Gerrard, you've very obviously got extremely serious reality issues. I'm beginning to think I might have stumbled across the truth when I guessed you might be blind as well as thick.
I am sorry.

Matt, this would all be very good if it wasn't a complete load of old pish.
Look at the simple facts.
Lampard was last year 2nd in the 2005 EPOTY award voting, Gerrard was 3rd. This year he was 17th this year while Gerrard didn't even figure. Indeed he has finished above Gerrard every year they have both been nominated, with the exception of 2001 when Gerrard got a solitary vote for 5th place and Lampard didn't feature.
Last year Lampard was 2nd in the FIFA WPOTY award, while Gerrard was 7th. This year Gerrard was 12th and Lampard was 14th.
Last year Gerrard won the PFA award, Lampard was nominated and the year before won the Football writers' award.
In 2005 Lampard was in the FIFPro world team of the year, Gerrard has not featured.
Whether you actually place any weight on these awards or not, the idea that experts and fellow professionals universally consider Gerrard to be the superior player is clearly laughable.
On all the items which can be clearly measured (goals, assists, awards) Gerrard trails behind Lampard.
If you can't see that then surely you should be the one that is questioning his vision.

Sigh ... look, it's really very cute, all this, but really. Talk about nibbling at the edges. Like I said, this whole farce of a concept is deader than Jade Goody's career. The body of evidence that suggests only Chelsea fans and the congenitally obtuse still think there's something to discuss here has been laid out in full. Starting with the overwhelming opinion of this thread (and every one of its previous incarnations and every one of its future incarnations too), moving over the various channels I alluded to and beyond into the wide wide world of sighted people in possession of fully functioning versions of both cerebra ... albeit never extending to the "universal". By definition, I might add.
See? This is all so pointless. All we have left is exhausted last wafts from tearful desperates at the unassailable truth, based on words I've not used or concepts I've not expressed.
But yes, Lampard consistently places better than Gerrard in the male version of the Miss Universe contest. We must never take that away from him. That would be the ultimate cruelty.
Now are we done?

Well you asked, he answered, do those people count as experts or the rest of the world or fellow professionals? Anything else?
I dont recall calling Lampard the superior footballer at any point, I do think Gerrard is naturally most skilled at alot of things, but Lampard with all his "limitations" and "luck" just produces more and gets it done more consistently and often at club level and had a better tournament(2004) than Gerrard ever played for England, and yes you can follow with the whole he was always played out of position, and all that.

Gerrard is better to watch - much more exciting most of the time. He does the flashy stuff that gets attention from those who only catch a bit of MOTD now and again.
The reason Chelsea fans defend Lampard so much is that we see him perform as the absolutely essential lynchpin force in our team as Gerrard is in yours but in a much better side than Liverpool. Statistically, Lampard has performed better. So he doesn't score as many wondergoals as Gerrard? He's certainly scored goals as good as anything Gerrard can offer and scores more - there are no bonuses for style in this game.

Comme those awards are bullshit and you know it. It's a popularity contest. Those 'fellow professionals' include players from all sorts of footballing backwaters who probably watch one Champions League game a month and that's it.
