And yet he still single-handedly beat Ecuador and Paraguay when Gerrard and Lampard couldn't hit the broad side of a barn.
Because he is a good player and the system basically gave him control of all of England's possession play. If we had played a more intelligent and pragmatic style that actually made use of our best players then that England team would have been expected to BATTER Ecuador or Paraguay, no disrespect to either of those teams.

The system had nothing to do with Lampard being unable to hit a good shot all tournament. Nor did it make him or Gerrard miss penalties.

Nope. Gerrard and Lampard played badly for England during that period. Nobody would deny that!

I'm talking about when he was a guaranteed starter despite being way, way past his best, when he would constantly drift inside and crowd the centre, when he would come back to the 18 yard box to pick up the ball.
They were/are fundamental flaws in Beckhams game in recent years. However, he was not the sole reason that the England team, and it's midfield inparticularly, was faling so terribly. He was just an easy scapegoat to pick out.

Oh by no means am I suggesting he was the only part/reason, please forgive the misunderstanding.
But he certainly was A part/reason.

Of course.
His flaws were brought out by other players flaws and vice-versa.
On paper it looked like a winnnig midfield. In practice it was a disaster. And the terrible thing? It forced Paul Scholes into retirement at the age of 29. Not to worry, it has ben sorted by the Don.

A mouse? Where the hell did a mouse come from? He looks nothing like a mouse. He's nearly six foot tall, for a start.

You can't go using actual physical dimensions to defend a player from name calling! Otherwise we'd all have to point out how Frank Lampard actually isn't fat!

I love the fact that Lampard gets called fat. Primarily because he's one of the physically fittest players in the league and, by anyone elses standards, isn't fat at all.
Infact, compared to Frank, I'm positively obese........... :(
