I reckon they are both world class but Gerrard has more of a knack for raising his game and inspiring his team to play better, so he gets my vote. Lampard is good but Gerrard is truly special. I think he should be the England captain, he would revel under the responsibility and really lead the team. I doubt its gonna happen though. As for Lamps one of his real qualities is his durability and supreme fitness. I take my hat off to him as he rarely if ever seems to be injured and plays almost every game.
Gerrard makes a brilliant captain for a team like Liverpool, who need that gung-ho drive sometimes as seen in the CL final, but England and Chelsea have top top top class players all over the pitch - they need a more traditional kind of leader... a pure warhorse with balls the size of shot-puts. ie. John Terry.

Essien, Totti and Kaka are better than both of them.
Well, they are three and Gerrard and Lampard are just two.....so three players SHOULD be better than two.:D

Paul Scholes is the best :- player of the year you watch !!!!!!!!
Oh yes and ManUtd have been lucky all year havent they
And 50% of Lampards goals arnt deflections are they ??? Ohh no
You cant be a succsessful side by just having luck on your side or
getting Penaltys, or the Ref being biast for your team.
Chelsea have been lucky that Drogba hasnt picked up an injury all season
not many other players have been scoring for them!!!

Scholes player of the year? Maybe red card of the year and he even missed when he threw the punch. If your going to box during a football match at least make the 3 game ban worth it, Paul.

Is that a Celtic graphic on your post ???? what a joke they were. I said after they beat ManUtd , the aim is to win the Trophy , which Celtic arent going to do are they ??????????
And there must be some reason why ManUtd are where they are in the Premiership league ????????? MMM dont you think
I think Chelea's Defenders and Midfield players are hatchet men they kick when there beaten everytime, trouble it is over the coarse of a year, It works !!!
Your just bitter and twisted me thinks.

I'd take Steven Gerrard over Lampard anyday
I just don't feel that Lampard is as good as he is billed to be
Heck Scholes is better at the same position than he is

I think people only say Lampard because he scores alot of goals and his name is heard alot more then Gerrards. But Stevie Gerrard also gets his fair share of goals in and is a very good leader at Liverpool. But i think the defensive game of gerrard as well as his attacking style would give him the edge over lampard. You rarely see lampard chasing down players in his defensive half!
totally agree with your point

Gerrard is not only a better defensive player than Lampard, he is a complete player (unlike Lampard). Also as previously mentioned, Gerrard is a great leader. But Lampard goals are terrific! He has a great aim...

Defo Lampard than Gerrard right now, Lampard scored 20 goals for chelsea already that is very good return for a midfield, Gerrard had scored eight goals but liverpool havent been doing well lately in the league (not gerrard fault), while chelsea is goings strong despite the big problems at the back.

In the league:
Lampard has played 30 games and has 11 goals from 40 shots (including three penalties)
Gerrard has played 30 games and has 5 goals from 21 shots
Scholes has played 23 games and has 5 goals from 14 shots

Scholes has only had 14 shots all season? That's around two shots every three games...

He has been forced to play a lot deeper this season and concentrate on his playmaking abilities, limiting his shooting chances. Scholes has always been a clinical player though. If we compare that trio and look at their highest scoring league campaigns:
Lampard (05/06) played 35 times and scored 16 goals from 42 shots (inc. four penalties)
Gerrard (05/06) played 32 times and scored 10 goals from 36 shots (inc. two penalties)
Scholes (02/03) played 33 games and scored 14 goals from 29 shots (zero penalties)

Scholes has found his best position this season, a position that both Gerrard and especially Lampard would struggle to play in.

Where are you getting these stats from?
*Edit* - Yahoo
It would appear Lampard & Gerrard consistently get more assists, tackles and rather unsuprisingly failed passes.

I think the assist stat is down Scholes never taking corners or freekicks, unlike the others. Most of his 'assists' involve the second to last pass and are thus not counted.

Neither Gerrard nor Lampard are particularily good set piece takers although Lampard does seem to have got the technique of hammering the ball roughly into a dangerous area down to a tee.
NHL style stats would paint a more interesting picture

Please... please accept my offer of a bet in the region of £20k. Please. I'll even give you 9/4.
Oh yes and ManUtd have been lucky all year havent they[quote]
Pretty much... They've been bloody good as well, mind.
[quote]And 50% of Lampards goals arnt deflections are they ??? Ohh no
No, no they aren't. You've answered your own question there.. I er, don't fully understand. As of a few weeks ago at least, 6 of Frank Lampard's 70-odd goals had been deflections.
You cant be a succsessful side by just having luck on your side or
getting Penaltys, or the Ref being biast for your team.
Has anyone said you can? Well.. I'm going to say you can. But as I said above, United have *also* played really well.
Chelsea have been lucky that Drogba hasnt picked up an injury all season
not many other players have been scoring for them!!!
For Chelsea, read United. For Drogba, read Ronaldo.
