Whos better Lampard or Gerrard?

I don't know if you can necessarily rank players in terms of influence, b/c there will always be a tendency to favour attacking players. However, there's no question that Lamps was/is vital to the team, especially in the first two seasons, but not just because of the goals.

I think if you look in terms of replaceability in the lineup over those two seasons, he was perhaps the most vital player to be healthy of all. Over both seasons, anytime he was out no one could step in and fill his role properly.

I reckon they are both world class but Gerrard has more of a knack for raising his game and inspiring his team to play better, so he gets my vote. Lampard is good but Gerrard is truly special. I think he should be the England captain, he would revel under the responsibility and really lead the team. I doubt its gonna happen though. As for Lamps one of his real qualities is his durability and supreme fitness. I take my hat off to him as he rarely if ever seems to be injured and plays almost every game.

I would say Gerrard is an upgraded version of Lampard .Gerrard tackles better , he runs faster ,he has a better shot ,better vision .Personally speaking , I cant think of an attribute that goes in Lampard's favour .

Yes, Gerrard is superior to Lampard in every facet of the game, since there are only 11 and you've proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that Gerrard is unquestionably better than Lampard in these categories, all of which have been evaluated completely objectively. Well done.

Lampard is a great player in the Premiership, his goal tally and his cup count can verify that. Gerrard is also a great player, winning a couple cups himself, albeit not the league. However, in the national team, Gerrard is better and has been better for a couple years now. Gerrard is better because he is a more complete player, Lampard is not that good at defending. This is shown when England makes Gerrard play more defensively because Lampard simply can't do that. They shouldn't play together. It is really a toss-up, but since I am a liverpool fan, Stevie G is better. :D

I'm an Arsenal fan and I agree with you. Lampard is a solid player in the Premiership but in the Champions League and for England he has failed to impress. Lampard just sums up everything that is wrong with England at the moment. Pick a player based on status rather than form and recent performances.

They're both pretty good players, but if I were forced to choose one to play over the other, everything else being equal (fitness, form, etc), I'd choose Gerrard. Barely.

And given how "well" they seem to do, together, for England, I think McClaren should realize he needs to make that choice.

For England recently, yes, his form has been poor, but Lampard has done very well in the Champions League, he's been influential in several key match-ups over the past few years, and last year's tie with Barca might have been different if he wasn't carrying a knock. To say he's failed to impress in the CL is way off the mark.
