Given that we're a bunch of Internet crazies, if you can give one piece of advice to our new leader, what would it be?
Mine would be this: Don't sweat the history, be your own man. There's no need to try and be Nowak-lite, or even the second coming of Bruce Arena. Surely all that time you've spent looking at the way others have coached have given you ideas on what you would do differently. Go ahead and give them a shot. If they don't work, that's okay, but don't feel like you have to be hemmed in by tradition. I mean, while a Decade of Passion sounds cool, it's really only 10 years.
And good luck sir.

Dude, you better not f*** this up or we will turn on you in a heartbeat.
Nah, just kidding. Nowak got a mulligan for the Pumas series, and that was in his second season!

Well, it's going to be interesting to see what kind of team we end up with. Soehn has always said he believes that offense starts in the back with overlaps and smart touches. We'll see. He has been around MLS as a player or coach since the beginning. He strikes me as generally a quiet type who watches and is very perceptive but he's not afraid to scream (as those he heard his comment's about Nickell's first touch ability at the reserve games can attest to). I don't have a sense of him tactically and how he'll differ from Nowak. He certainly has a rep as the best qualified assistant in MLS. Dom Kinnear had a great rep as Yallop's assistant--had a hickup the first year and since then has had his side playing good soccer. We'll see what Soehn brings to the table. In the meantime, welcome sir!

I know you're kidding but the Barra stands behind any coach steering United.

So I guess the "It's The Coach, Stupid" banner high above RFK stemmed from the Quiet Side?

It didn't stem from The Barra.

I'm actually excited about this move. Nowak was getting a little tiresome to tell the truth. Of course we all owe him a debt of gratitude for what he wrought here at United. I just think that with the Freddy circus and the rigidity with tactics that the team needed a new direction. Now what that direction is only TS knows at this point.
I don't think we have the personnel right now to switch to the 442. We'd need either a left back or left mid depending upon where Soehn puts Gros. Adu was our starter on the left but I imagine that Gros is penciled in there. We should be signing a right sided Brazilian according to Goff. And who sits between Carroll and Olsen?
Too many questions right now. I would like to see the 442 again as I think Erpen would be great in front of Boswell and Gros and Namoff can both get forward.
Anyway, good luck, Tommy!

Fair enough... it just seems to me that was a highly planned out scheme that only a supporter group could muster, but I wasn't trying to say anything more than "at TIMES enough is enough".
I'll stand by a coach as long as I believe in what they're doing. However, at the time of the banner, Rongen was sinking our ship hardcore, and I could not stomach it (I was very appreciative of the banner).
Actually (sorry all) didn't mean to bring up old sh!t...
Yo Tommy, congrats on the promotion ... here's the keys to OUR car!!

If I recall correctly, it was born right here on BigSoccer. That was before the Barra had any representation here. I was the first. I remember being at the game and people from another supporter group telling me to watch the skies around halftime.

Wow, the more I think of this coaching switch, the more it's dawning on me we've got a new lease on tactics!
Sure, the roster & much of the rest will remain, but certain standards we've come to accept are suddenly all on the block ... such as formation & rotation.
I'm more exciting than nervous!

FYI, the airplane deal was organized by one independent person who posted the idea in this forum and then others here contributed funds. It was not something that any of the DC supporters groups organized.

I'm guessing John Harkes is slapping his forehead right now. He might have been the DC Asst Coach if he had stayed. Now I wonder who will get the gig.
