Figo was Summer of 2000, Zizou was 2001, Ronaldo was 2002.

I'd like Chivu and Joaquin to come in after this season. Beckham is an unfortunate possiblity too.

Chivu is next. Time to pay some attention to the defense.

Chivu would replace Hierro in defense. Joaquin would play on the right in Figo's place. Figo would move to the left wing or be traded.
Casillas, Bravo, Chivu, Pavon, Minambres, Cambiasso, Solari, Joaquin, ____, Raul, and Portillo will be a very young, very talented team in just a few years.

In England the media seem to think that the Beckham deal is already done and dusted, however this is possibly paper talk.
Joaquin and Chivu would both be sensible signings, but do they really fit in with Madrid's pattern of spending. Neither are likely to sell many shirts, unless its the lucrative Romanian market that Madrid are after. Beckham would sell them by the million in the far east.

It seems that for Florentino it's all about selling shirts. In Spain everyone thinks that the team's needs are others, but it seems that Beckham will come in the end.

These rumors about Beckham are like market research for Real Madrid. They just watch as every sporting paper outside the US speculates on whether or not a deal will be done, if Posh Spice is looking for a preschool for their kid in Madrid, etc...
The more talk, the more likely Real Madrid are going to sign him, even though from a purely tactical standpoint, it doesn't make much sense. They barely used McManaman, who certainly has a different style than Beckham, but is a world class midfielder.

I think that Real will try to get Christian Vieri in the off season. I don't know why they would need him with Raul and Ronaldo up front but I read somewhere that they were interested in Vieri and would possibly trade Figo for Vieri.

Put it this way, Figo was the man at Real Madrid for a year by himself and then Zidane came and took over the team and controlled things. That's how good and effective Zidane is.
Figo is a great player but has a poor work ethic.
