The German Football Association claim its national team will face England in the inaugural international at the new Wembley Stadium next year.

Germany were England's last opponents at the old Wembley in 2000 but look set to return to open the new stadium on August 22.

The DFB has announced on its website that the game will take place, with a 7.30pm kick-off.

Reports last week suggested that England had invited Germany to participate in a friendly at Wembley, although The Football Association moved quickly to cool the talk.

However, the DFB's announcement may force The FA into confirming the fixture will take place next summer.

Wembley is currently scheduled to be completed in time to host this season's FA Cup final in May.

I could go into a long tyraid about why it has taken so long to build this stadia and why it is so much more expensive that it was ment to be and since this is an issue that pisses me off quite a lot I will.

The reason why Multiplex won the original contract was because their tender was the lowest and being the simpletons that the FA are they thought that this was the best tender to accept. What they didn't take into account was the fact that Multiplex had not build anything of this size not only in the UK but actually outside of Australia. Multiplex wanted the reputation from building such a large and prestigous project so they placed a tender that was optimistic even for an experianced UK based contractor.

The fact that Multiplex has placed the lowest bid was the reason they won the contract, but it's also the reason they ********ed it up so badly. You see the UK construction industry is touch short of workers at the moment. The last estimate was around 20,000 positions in all areas of the industry. Now because of this the best workers get paid the best wages and because Multiplex had made such a low tender it ment that they could not spend the required amount on getting the people needed to complete the job on time. This also coupled with the fact that they had never even built anything of note in this country before ment that they had to recruit alot of people for the lowest cost possible. It doesn't take a genius to see that it was wrong from the start.

Germany would be good opponents if it turns out to be true. Though I suppose for historical reason it should be Scotland. Could get a nice 5-0 win then as well.

It's dangerous. We should get someone we can beat, we don't want the Germans being the first team to win in the new stadium...

That's my line of thinking, I really think that this is a disaster waiting to happen with McSven in charge.

germany drew with cyprus in their last game.
just because their one decent striker was injured.
im not suprised the bolton crowd are already seeing the negative side of the game.

We're used to seeing relatively successful football with Bolton, something we don't get to enjoy with England.

nationals teams get so little chance to succeed. once every two years in a 3 week long tournie .
comparison between club fortunes is futile.

bolton is OK but not exactly a top contender.
allardyce does a good job to keep them around the top 6 or 7.

I'd rather we picked Brazil instead, that would be brillaint

Don't think our FA has confirmed anything yet.

Scotland would of been fun, then again do they really deserve to play at such a fantastic stadium?

This game would be more important than a world cup or euro qualifier to me. I hope we don’t lose but if we do lets hope its not 5-1.

There was a piece in one of the papers saying that the first game will be this season and against Brazil or Argentina.

Personally, I think it would be nice to have a game against a World XI - get all of the stars out for the re-opening of a legendary stadium.

Anyone know the word "yankie" ?
thats a new word that hasnt been used before.

this is how I look at it.
qualifying group = league
world cup = champions league

is bolton a champions league calibre outfit???

When was the last time you took a reading comprehension lesson? Considering the resources available, Bolton finishing sixth is like Spurs winning the league. It's quite clear which of us is underperforming.

The FA have got it the wrong way round.

Instead of hiring an Aussie building firm, they should have hired an efficient German one,who would actually get the job done and on time.

and instead of playing Germany, we should be playing Australia! Increasing the odds of a morale boosting victory after the reopening of Wembley
