Is it by any chance the same guy who does their MLS broadcast?

i dont think anyone can be worse than hopkins, the guy sounded like seamus malin.....i still do not know why they dont use toby.... he does the bundesliga wrap show.... it was a step up from hopkins, but still not very good. I honestly am still in shock that hopkins is still employed... he mumbles so much.. i cannot watch any game he commentates on it irritates me that much.

Yes, I notice the new voice.
However, he's not a new guy. He's simply Ridge Mahoney, one of the EPL commentators in the early days of Fox Sports World.

Simply, he's not good. I'm sorry - he's not good.

My first memory of Ridge with a microphone is as the sideline reporter for the 1998 USA/Brazil game. I haven't watched that game in a while.

I didn't see this last game but I have heard Ridge do German league games before.
He's very soft-spoken but I like listening to him. I think he does a good job. He's alweays been a color guy though and not in the booth alone - don't knwo if that was the case this week.

I like Hopkins; I think he's great.
And the reason why you heard a replacement is 'cause Bretos and Hopkins now do Galaxy games on the local channel so when they're being shown locally, they're on the road with the team and hence can't be back in the studio doing the games. The same thing is likely to happen this weekend as I think the Quakes/Galaxy game is being shown on KCLA Channel 9.
But I think Hopkins will still be the official Bundesliga broadcaster, unless there's been a readical reshuffling in addition to the rest of the changes.
btw, this is also why those two clowns who did the FSW MLS game were not Bretos and Hopkins, as in the first week. With Bretos and Hopkins in New York, FSW had to go to the backup crew.

please.. and you are a moderater...
this guy is probably the worst commentator that sports has ever produced.... and you think he is good... give me someone who can speak english without mumbling and i will at least give him some respect.... Hopkins... no way in hell.

What happened to MLS's worst broadcast pair: Ricky Davis and Joe Tutino? I assume you mean KCAL?

I think Tutino and Davis do Galaxy radio, but I'm not 100% sure.
Bretos and Hopkins are on KCAL-9, which used to be owned by Disney, I don't know if it still is.

I know Tutino, like kenntomasch said, is doing radio. I don't know if Davis is doing color on radio or has been dropped altogether.

what does me being a moderator have to do with anything? you don't have to know much about soccer to be a moderator. you just have to moderate a little.
actually, i think hopkins rarely mumbles and strikes just the right tone for a bundesliga match. he's far better than that ole' english guy they were trying to resurrect. (can't recall his name; i know he's famous over here for his work in the 70s.)
but obviously it's just my opinion. if there's one truism on BigSoccer, is that no two posters will ever agree about announcers...or at least rarely.

i was under the impression that moderators did have some knowledge of the game... (no slam intended)... to be a good commentator you have to have a good grasp of the english language.. Hopkins doesnt... he does mumble... and his pronounciation is terrible... is over announciation of some of the names ala bretos is terrible... toby charles has tons of knowledge with the german game and doesnt slur and his speech and call of the game is excellent...

i can understand hopkins just fine. it sounds like you have to work on your english comprehension, cantona.
