With all the trades going on right now, it would be a good idea to get rid of Erpen. Seriously, we know the mistaked he's made and now is the time to make the change. He seems to have played well on the right but looks like Namoff has the right side secured. I say get rid of him now, maybe Colorado will take him too.

I hope you're kidding. Given the trade of Prideaux, who is your Erpen replacement? I guess David Stokes' sublime abilities have affected your judgment. Geesh.
Erpen is the only DCU defender that really appears comfortable with the ball at his feet and is probably the most athletic. Judgment can be coached, pure physical ability can't.

I don't understand the DC fire sale approach. Adu and Rimando for what should amount to two new impact players from SA seems like a good idea given all the circumstances. But why unload Prideaux, Alecko or Erpen. Prideaux netted nothing of consequence, Alecko can score and is unlikely to get equal value in return, Erpen is a really good overall defender and not expensive so I can't imagine how you'd find an equal replacement in the same cap room. Also if Carroll's gone the 3-5-2 will need to be reconstructed and you'll need another starting capable central defender to fill out a 4-4-2 depth chart.
Far too many needs this year to be getting rid of productive pieces for little value.

Eric Denton??? But I wanted a peanut!
[brain]Eric Denton can buy you lots of peanuts.
Explain how!
[brain]Eric Denton is a professional athlete whose salary can be exchanged for goods and services.
Woo hoo!

What game did we have in hand that Facu single handedly lost for us? How many own goals did he score in his time here?
And can we have a moritorium on making fun of Elvira Erpen? Its strikes me as something MetroSteers fans would do. The woman sacrificed and worked hard to help her son become a professional soccer player. We shouldn't mock her for wanting to explain to us that he is a hard working young man that loves this team and wants to succeed for all of us. Grow up.

I agree, and he's got a helluva outside shot.

Did we acquire Tim Regan and Eric Denton? Or is Fox Sports wrong again. (Like when they claimed Klinnsmann was days from signing)

Erpen is what 24? True, he isn't perfect, but he is getting better and I bet those mental errors will drop off pretty soon.

I think RBNY got Denton, unless we just made a trade with you that I haven't seen yet

I don't know what's more annoying, the actual post or the fact that OFFLOAD IS ONLY ONE WORD.

tim ragon went to nyrb.

There is.
Any posts that have been binned are a warning, next time I'm issuing infractions.
Feel free to post all you want about Erpen and your opinions about him as a player - family members, especially those who post or posted on BigSoccer are off limits.

Erpen makes me really nervous sometimes and I'm always happy when his one big eff up for the game is executed without the other team scoring. However, he was an all-star this year and deservedly so IMHO - if anything, he tries too hard.
And besides, there's no way Stokes will take his place, since he's being groomed to be a target forward. ;)

Hey Y'all,
Don't try to crucify me. I watched every game this year and saw the mistakes that Erpen was making. He lost the ball in Dangerous areas (in our own half) twice a game. Thanks to Boz for rescuing him. Are you kidding me? Are you guys watching the same games as I'm? Just because I don't post here all the time doesn't mean I'm not watching the games and seeing his mistakes. The fact is our defense is not just problematic with Erpen, its problematic with Namoff too being out of position sometimes and Perkins is not yet a leader. Everyone jumps on our offense but things start with our defense. The fact that we ended the year with some ties and losses wasn't just a coincident, it was due time because guys either stopped caring or were making mistakes all along and it bit them in the end which why we didn't win the championship. The fact i Facu has failed to mark his man, out of position, giving up the ball, doesn't drop back to receive a pass when pressure is on. Now tell me this is not reason enough. Everyone thinks he is great and I know he is good. But if he contributed to our dwnfall at the end of the season that means things are not looking good for next season. As for the offloading that is going, maybe Payne is looking to buy other players using those picks. So far the trades have made sense, not so sure about getting rid of Nickle so quickly. But looking at it from a defensive perspective we looked sluggish at the End of the season. We need a flat-back four, thos guys don't have enough help. Maybe you guys can draw up the 4-4-2 and put people in places.

yes Erpen makes mistakes, because he is taking chances.
taking chances means your not always going to succeed.
Erpen needs to stay.

Erpen is one of the best young defenders in the league. Offloading him would be a ridiculously stupid thing to do.

but going to the game i had a different opinion then when id watch the game at home later. the announcers always are so quick to blame, i mean they need something to talk about. hes good. and as the argtinians were in the world cup. hes so confortable on the ball. and i agree the base level is great. he just needs a little more training. hes young. i like the fact that we have boswell that doesnt take chances and erpen that does. give the defence a bit of a surprize. and the more time they have together, they can only get better working together.
