Who will win Barcelona or Liverpool? Barca are favourites as always, but will Liverpool provide them with a shock. Both have been the last winners of the CL, but Liverpool are not really as good as Barca in their leagues, but Liverpool have somehow became a prominent figure in the CL [ ]. But who will win? Barcelona hopefully!

If Barcelona can lose to nobodies from South America they can lose to Liverpool.

Through Barca have the better flair and overall attack, the two X-factors will be The Spanish players/Spainish manager in Benitez who truely knows the tendencies of Deco, Ronalidhno, and others, the fact that the second leg is at Anfield is the reason why the defending champions will crash out to the previous defending champions.

If Liverpool does not get an away goal at the Camp Nou then I don't think Liverpool is going to progress. A healthy Barca will score goals at home and at Anfield and I think the away goal rule will be the decider in this tight affair. Barcelona to go through....

Just like nobodies from Brazil beat Liverpool in 2005? In the end, the result of a one off final in the Intercontinental Cup has no influence on a two legged Champions League tie. Barcelona deserved better today just as Liverpool did last year but it just wasn't meant to be.
ps...Anyone who follows S. American football can recognize that Internacional and Sao Paolo are two teams filled with talented players and not 'nobodies'. Congrats to Internacional de Porto Alegre.

Those "nobodies from Brazil" in my honest opinion would beat Englands national team and your poor Bolton.
In order for Barca to win both matches (which I am praying for) They definately need to win @ home with more than 1 goal seperating them. This game is going to be a midefield battle and on paper Barca is superior plus Gerrard is typically played out of position. Hopefully Eto will be fully healthy as well as Messi. I truely believe this match is going to be good along with the Inter/Valencia and Lyon/Roma.
A little off topic but honestly I think Lyon has a better chance of winning the Champions League more than Chelsea. I mean they have been amazing so far throughout the tournament as well in France. They are truely the most consistent team this year closely followed by Inter. The reason why I say this is the fact that Chelsea look like sh*t without Robben on the pitch (I may not like him but this guy is really talented and I dont know why he is a substitute). For this reason I dont really consider Mourinho a great tactian.

Alright, lets forget about that idiotic little tournament for a while and try to discuss the topic at hand?
Personally, I cannot wait for this game...this is exactly what the CL is all about, two recent winners, great players all around. Barca will, undoubtedly, be favorites but don't forget, Rafa knows Barca quite well and will know what to expect of them.
I think its going to be a lot tighter than some may expect.

Its not the same Barcelona from when he was at Valencia. I see Barcelona going through .. Liverpool are going to need a miracle.

Of course its a different side but their "spanish" style remains. Overall, I think it'd be fair to say Rafa will be prepared better for a team like Barcelona than an Eastern European team which he's never encountered before.

Can anyone please tell me the name of the last 'big' side that ko'ed Liverpool from Europe? in terms of when they have played a bayern, Milan, barca, real, juve, Chelsea sized club.
they almost never seem to be ko'ed by larger clubs, only smaller ones. apart from a few matches (inter and the crooked ref in 65, 85 and the penalty from outside the area, the 82 super cup where only the away leg was played v juventus, plus losing to BM in 72) Apart from this, they ko'ed the likes of Chelsea and Milan in 05, Roma in 84, 01 and 02, bayern in 71, 81 and 01(super cup), juve in 66 and 05 and barca in 76 and 2001, plus if you consider the sides of munchengladbach and hamburg in the 70s to be big sides, they were both
koed in 73, 76 and 77 from various tournaments, plus st Etienne in 77.(i wouldn't consider these three sides to be that big now, but when they played Liverpool, they were all three very powerful clubs, especially gladbach and st Etienne.
my money is on Liverpool for this one, barca have a better squad and the referees on their side, but Liverpool have the weight of history, plus the second leg in a little place called anfield, which has something of a history when it comes to Liverpool getting crucial victories over huge big name opponents.

Barcelona will crush Liverpool at home 3-0 I predict. Liverpool might win the 2nd leg but it wont matter. Barca through comfortably.

You use the word 'history' twice. I don't think that counts for anythign in football. Saying they're going to win because they beat Bayern in the 80s is like saying they're going to win the Premiership because they won it in the 80s.
Having said that, Barcelona don't seem to be the force they were last year, it could depend on injuries and whether Ronaldinho is having an 'on' day or an 'off' day, or a fluke goal or mistake over 180 minutes.

I gave a fair amount of precedent in that post, with results from the 70's, 80s and 2000s, 7 games i mentioned were from the past 6 seasons, plus you totally ignored my question, who were the last big side to ko liverpool from a european competition? juve in 85, from a pen that never was, thats a long time ago.

Well, dismissing that because we all know that 1985 final should never have been played, the last 'big side' to KO Liverpool F.C in European Competition would be maybe Bayern Munchen back in November 1972. Then again, Bayern were not a real 'big side' back then. This was before they had won any of their European Cups.
It's a very very good question you have posed. Liverpool almost never get KO'd from Europe by the real 'big sides'. Benfica have a big name, but last year they were not really a big side.

Thank you red zep, i thought it was a good point to make. also i have included that result in my above list, not the tourney, but the fact that bm ko'ed liverpool in 72, but as you said and i didnt think of, bm were not even close to the side they are now back then. also ajax ko'ed livepool from the ec in 67, but they were totally unknown back then. im loving the fact that almost no one appreciates liverpools mythical ability in europe, makes it all the more sweeter when they win.

Bayern knocked out Liverpool in 1971, not 1972. Bayern featured players like Beckenbauuer, Müller, Maier, Breitner, Schwarzenbeck and Hoeness. With that roster, they were certainly among the most respected clubs in Europe already in 1971.

1975-76 EC3 winners
1976-77 EC1 winners
1977-78 EC1 winners
1978-79 EC1 0-0, 0-2 Forest Rd1

Since Liverpool is playing in the CL, they have lost the following games:

So, the last time Liverpool lost to a big side was either in the 2001-02 campaign when they lost 1-3 to Barcelona (even if it was only a group game) or in 2002-03 when they lost to Valencia 0-3 on aggr., if Valencia is counted as a big side.

You are right. I went off the top of my head. I double checked and it was Nov '71.

I think lost was meaning sides who actually knocked Liverpool out. Those games (as you said) were group games. They weren't do or die knockout matches. They ultimately had little deciding factors in Liverpool being actually knocked out.
