View Full Version : Amateur League and Kickaround Thread

I'm starting this thread for two reasons:
1.) Establish a thread for information on amateur leages in the area.
2.) Provide a place to organize kickarounds (when the weather gets better).
I'm looking for information on adults leagues in either RI and/or southeastern MA. Either a laid back all ages league or a 30+ league would be the best fit for me. I need a reason to get back into and stay in shape.
As for kickarounds, we should really look into finding a regular place for one. Maybe the afternoon before away viewings would be a good time for some.

I play on a coed BSSC team fall and spring that is always looking for new blood.
Also have a group who I play pick up with on wed at magazine park in cambridge (we'll probably start up again a week or two before daylight savings kicks in).
I also occassionally fill in for a team or two down in canton for indoor (weeknights)

In Worcester County, there is a co-ed league called GWASA. Information can be found at gwasa.com (http://www.gwasa.com).

Anywhere from Lowell to Ayer or that general area would do for me:)
I know there used to be one in Nashua, but I don't know anything about it, my coach used to play there

I'd LOVE to find a kickaround and/or team to play on in the RI/SE Mass area. Even just a damn practice partner would be cool on the weekends, for the time being. The practicing shots on goal and corner kicks by yourself gets old real fast.:(

How far are you from Oxford or Uxbridge?
I once tried to take 146A south through Uxbridge because I had a hunch it was a shortcut. 90 minutes later, I resurfaced in civilization.
Seriously, when the snow melts that's not that far from where I'll be. I'm down for some pickup.

I have no clue where either are, although I woulnd't mind driving up on a Saturday or Sunday and kickin the ball around.
It's been impossible to find goalposts still set up here in RI/MA now that high school and college soccer seasons are finished.
I'm trying to squeeze every last drop outta the current mind temps we're having here in RI by kicking around the ball in the backyard. Even constructed a net outta PVC pipes and bought some goal netting at Sports Authority.
Whatever gets the job done, right? :)
But if anyone wants to just kick the ball around while the temps are still manageable, by all means, I'm just a PM away.

They are putting in sprinklers so it will be OOC for a few months. After that, though.

Can somebody list indoor soccer facilities around the Boston area ? I did some
searching on the net and found only two so far, in Revere and Canton.
I'm from the DC area and just staying here temporarily during the week.
It would be great if I could play outdoor pickup but will consider playing
in local indoor leagues during the week.
Thanks for your help.

Revere and Northborough are the two I've played at.
Today in Northborough, they had a Play against the Pro's tournament. Taylor was there but didn't play. Kristine Lily and Robin Fraiser were in attendence. Nicol and Mariner also played and I must say Nicol is VERY GOOD. Nicol and Mariner also coached my coworkers daughters team.
New England Over the Hill Soccer League (www.othsl.org)
O-30, 5 divisions (D1 includes John Kerr, Francis Okaroh, Steve Nicol, and others); O-40, 8 divisions; O-50, 4 divisions; "Veterans", 1 division (and a fleet of ambulances). NEOTHSL is the largest adult league in the country. A division is typically 12 teams, 6 north and 6 south. About 20 teams are based in NH.
Bay State Soccer League ("http://www.bssl.com/) (4 divisions) and Mass State Soccer League (http://www.mssleague.net/) (2 divisions) are two "open" adult leagues. Also a summer league, Eastern Mass Men's Soccer Association (http://www.mpsbr.com/leagues/EMMSA.html), that has some D1 college kids.
For the women, Eastern Mass Women's Soccer League (http://www.emwsl.org/), which has spring, summer, and fall leagues. I've ref'd games that have mothers and daughters playing together and others that are a half step down from the pros.
Massachusetts Adult State Soccer (http://www.mass-soccer.org/affiliatedleagues.htm) also includes links to some of the smaller ethnic leagues.

This is off topic, but this seemed like the most logical place to post it anyway. Sorry and please move it if it should be elsewhere.
I haven't played soccer since high school and I wasn't much good then. But I'd like to play recreationally in or around Providence this summer. I'm 33, 6'1" and in good enough shape to run all game. Does anyone know where I might find an appropriately skilled rec league?
