If we're talking about the same grassy area (on the West side of the stadium between the orange lots, well.... at the BCS Natl Championship game the "grassy area" was an alcohol free area. Just something to consider.
The grassy area is about 30 yards wide and 100 yards long.

Can someone from phoenix confirm if any bars have opened in the westgate complex? If that is the case there should be some that are walkable distance.
the yardhouse (http://www.yardhouse.com)
is close to the stadium in the heart of westgate.
Gordon Biersch (http://www.gordonbiersch.com/restaurants/index.php?pg=location&sub=loc&location_id=33)
is a good walk and on the nw corner.

This game will be awesome, 2 days before my bday a win would be an awesome present. I really wish I could go never been to a US NT game...
Its just they are always too far away.

Are you all going to meet at the parking lot, or at the bars/restaurants nearby? Also, does anyone in Phoenix area know if there's a supermarket or drugstores near the stadium? I would need to get some drinks/ice/snacks for the tailgate. Is BBQing on the grass area allowed??

It's as far away as your nearest airport. Live it up!
I'm flying in with a buddy from LA the day of the game an dback out the next.
One nice thing is I have a free roundtrip on SWA (I did a lot of business travel last year) and will be splitting a room with him to reduce cost.

I think everyone should plan on tailgating in the parking lot by the designated "grassy area". It will create a better gameday atmosphere than if people meet up at a nearby restaurant/bar.
It says that gas grills are allowed, but charcoal grills are prohibited. I'm planning on putting that theory to the test. As far as nearby supermarkets, I have no idea, but one can't be too far away.
It's gonna be a rowdy time. I hope people are planning on showing up early and being loud.

Today's paper, ad for the game. Placed over a picture of Landon between 2 players, is the US Soccer Shield. Copy says..."Come see the Beautiful Game get a LITTLE UGLY."
I can hardly wait...I love this game!!!

I can not wait for this game ! So kickoff is at 725 mountain time I believe.
I think we should all be in the parking lot singing and tailgating by about 4. march into the stadium at about 6 or a little after , do some pre match singing , then watch the US work some mexicans. :)

Hey Everybody,
Looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible. To try to help sort things out.
1) Is there a hotel or area where there is a group of supporters staying?
2) Is there a bar or restaurant where we will be meeting on tuesday, the night before the game?
3) Where are we tailgating and what time?
I will be flying in from LA on tuesday afternoon.............See ya there

A local can correct me if I'm wrong, but I didn't see any hotels within walking distance of the stadium (so I booked a room at the Glendale/Peoria Marriott since it looks like a relatively short drive to the stadium- still too far to walk though). I'm waiting for further info on everything else.

I'll be going up to the game, but I think I missed the deadline for tickets in the Sam's Army section. A friend in Boston is sending me a banner that she brings to the Nats games (I think it's been to the World Cup). I would like to get in touch with someone in the section so I can get it put up.
You can e-mail me at prezelski@aol.com (mailto:prezelski@aol.com). I'm sure I'll regret putting up my e-mail address.

I couldn't find any hotels within walking distance either, I even tried to look up the hotels that were recommended by AZ visitor's website. The closest one I could find was 4 miles away from the stadium and it had horrible reviews. We will be staying in the Goodyear area. I don't know if there's any get-togethers on Tue. night.. We will be driving from San Diego area on Wed. morning. Somebody mentioned that we should meet in the grass area 4 hours before the game (3pm??).

I agree. We can tailgate in the parking lot before the game, and maybe head to the nearby restaurant/ bar after the game, if anyone's up for it.

Doesn't look like the game is even close to sold out right now.... The insane ticket prices are probably going to keep a lot of people away.
