Yes, I know we have an official player chant thread, but I think it may be easier to do this face-to-face. Would anyone be interested in getting together next Saturday, Dec. 23, to work on some new songs?

I'm thinking a couple (or more) cases of beer and some hot wings from the Peanut will spark our creativity.

We need songs for all of our new players and coaches, and it would really be nice to have a hymn of respect for Lamar to sing immediately following the moment of silence that will certainly ensue at our first home game.

Any takers?

incredible idea. i was just thinking it would be cool to have an anthem a la Liverpool and "you'll never walk alone." er...do we have something/tried this in the past?

songs haven't really been the "thing" for the section. Chants and cheers that are quick, simple, and easy to catch on to have been the norm for the section. The chants that have held on and lasted have been the ones that are easy to remember with few words. A full fledge song (a la "you'll never walk alone") would take a long time (years) to catch on with everyone. Not to mention we don't really have any good singers in the group.

And honestly John, I don't think we can expect a meeting that close to Christmas to be very well attended, it being the Saturday before Christmas, many people are already going to be out of town. Also I don't see one meeting creating anything ground breaking unless you have a good group of people that all come prepared with ideas and tunes to piggy back on.

Hence the question mark..

And I use the word song very loosely. Chants, songs, whatever. If you'd rather do it another day, that's great as well. I just wanted to get it out there.

I think we should do this.

But I agree with Kuhn, 23rd is just a bad day, IMO.
Maybe more like... after the first week of January?

Any and all input welcomed ofcourse.

Why not closer to the season, when we know who all of our new players are going to be?? Great idea though.

Okay, since this doesn't really fit in with "player chants" I thought I would add this in here.

I know we start each half with the "here we go" chant....how about mixing it up and adding the opening refrain from the Ramones "Blitzkreig Bop": HEY! HO! LET'S GO!......repeat till horse.

I love it...but that's probably a give, eh?

I won't be able to be there. The few days around Christmas are always busy.

We need more (or at least one really good one) that people can participate in without singing. Some of the chants that have spread best are the ones that have clapping, hands up in the air, or have response sections.

I'd like to do something original, but the PAO tape floating around Youtube is a good example. http://www3.youtube.com/watch?v=u0rMe2Vyb9E

That's not necessarily true.

I doubt all of the people in the crowd at EPL games are a bunch of Sinatras but that's not really required. When a large group of people break into the right song it can give you goosebumps whether they're all on key or not. And besides, I know of several people in the Cauldron who sang in choirs, etc, my wife included. And from Greg's response I think he might be quite the crooner also. ;)

Okay... Sorry to have offended those with family. With my job and schedule, I don't do much in the way of celebrating Christmas so it wasn't on the top of my mind.

Anyway. The initiative for my posting this is so that we can come together as a group and come up with some really great chants for the team and the players for next year. I'm hoping that this isn't a one-off event.

How about we push it back to January 5th... It's a Friday night, so we can do lots of drinking and lots of thinking...
