Rosenborg had a very young team during the first time they made an impact on Norwegian soccer and at the time someone gave the team a Troll figure.
That become the Troll mom and the players became the Troll kids.

Luis Angel Firpo...Toros (bulls)
Mexico
Actually Chivas (goats), is not the official name of the team.
It's official name is Club Deportivo Guadalajara. Chivas is the nickname.
The name Chivas was given when the team just got to the "primera liga"
from an under league (promotion/ relegation). In that time, every new team to the league, it will be call chivas,as a way to put down the team...but Club Deportivo Guadalajara got stuck with the nickname, now they are very proud to be call Chivas.

Actually Club Deportivo Guadalajara and Club América are the only two clubs to have always been in the premier division of Mexican football. The origin of "Chivas" derives from a match with city rival Atlas. During the match, Atlas fans were insulting Guadalajara players by calling them "chivas brinconas", ever since then they have been popularly known as las Chivas.
Newspaper article in which "Chivas" is used for the first time.

Chievo Verona - Flying Donkeys
That's actually kind of a cool one with some recent history... it was said that donkeys would fly before Chievo made it to the Serie A... so I guess that's where the name came from and has stuck.

Since when have QPR been the spiders? I've never heard that one before.
Also:
Crystal Palace - The Eagles (totally arbitrary)
Brighton - The Seagulls (seaside location)
Nope. Can't remember which came first, but one is definitely a piss-take of the other.
Also, Cardiff are the Bluebirds, not blue birds.
Plenty of the West Country teams are Robins too, for some reason.
