Vs. Manu
vs. Hotspur.
vs. Chelsea
vs. Wigan....

No worries.

When he's back, we'll only be stronger--esp. if he is fully, truly fit.

I'm just bummed out from a personal standpoint because I'm going to see the Blackburn match with no Henry for us and no Nelsen (former DC captain) for Blackburn. :(

he needs to go someplace sunny and warm (out of england) and decide two things. Do I care enough to play and stay interested in a 38 game season, or am I just hear for CL football? and since the later is the only honest answer at this point. He needs to hand in the armband. he can say he needs to focus on working with our young bunch of strikers and give it to Gilberto and let Kolo deputize.

i feel that we can be a strong team, even without our best player. although, i have one concern, our free kicks on the left side of the 18 yard box. i know v. persie can take them, but he is much better and pretty much only scores them when the are from the right side of the box. i feel that if we get some good chances from that side, Kolo will either sky it to row z, cesc will send a bending shoot right to the keeper, or v. persie will put it in the middle of the box. with no one to get on the end of it.

Arsenal believe without Thierry

The result against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge is further proof that this young Arsenal team can compete in big games against the best teams – without Thierry Henry.

The draw, coupled with a victory at Old Trafford, offers fresh belief to a team steadily reducing their reliance on Henry, especially psychologically. Some have extended this argument to suggest that Arsenal are better off without Henry in the long-term, but this is an erroneous assertion.

Perhaps some players do feel less pressure when Henry is out of the side, and play better as a result. Undoubtedly, Arsenal have performed well without him, but this in no way portends that Arsenal would do better without arguably their greatest-ever player. Henry’s goals, assists and explosive style make him a true icon of the modern game and any football club in the world would be weaker without him.
.
.
He is impatient with the younger members of the side, and has been unable to inspire as others as leader, especially when a match is destined for a Gunners defeat. Strikers rarely make great captains; an argument based on their position on the field. Henry is too advanced for any substantial influence on a game – a defender or midfielder is far more able to dictate the play and encourage his players.

Gilberto was excellent as captain against Spurs and Chelsea, and Kolo Toure is a huge presence, showing genuine leadership and organisational skills. So there are alternatives should Wenger do the unthinkable and strip the Frenchman of his captain’s armband. Henry’s comments about buying Shaun Wright-Philips were simply ridiculous, bearing in mind he has no say on whom the manager purchases and he appears to want to force Wenger into a January spending spree. The forward believes strengthening is essential if Arsenal are to present a greater challenge for the title or for Europe’s top prize. Conversely, his manager has maintained that there will be no additions next month.

Many great players have found themselves on the substitute’s bench and every relationship has its flare-ups, so this situation is not necessarily a seriously one. The relationship between the player and manager will improve unaided within the remaining months of the season, ensuring Arsenal supporters can look forward to seeing a fully fit Thierry Henry spearhead another assault on the Champions League come February.

Arsenal fans can begin to lick their lips at the prospect.

Good article.

To me it's clear that TH14 is far from a happy camper this season and his relationship w/ AW is strained.

I recently saw a clip of him saying he wished he could(ve) partner(ed) w/ Anelka. It seemed like a veiled plea to AW to get him such a partner and go back to 4-4-2.

I actually think it's good that this has come to a head. Becuase the team became too dependant on Henry in recent years. We need to be a good, competitive team without him and then when he is added to the mix (if in form) he can take us to the next level.

The away games at ManU, Chelsea & Wigan have given the others a chance to prove themselves and they have.

I'm hoping that when TH returns to the lineup that something else will have changed, other than just his physical well-being.

yep, henry is not a captain type player i wouldnt say, hes more of a perfectionist amazing talent that does his own thing

i always think dms or centre halves should be captains as they can influence people from the back whil henry is upfront, alone alot of the time

As a perfectionist he's desperate to see his charges succeed which can manifest as anger/frustration if it ain't happening. This will either inhibit certain personalities or motivate others to raise thier game because it's in them or to prove him wrong - TH is a leader who's learning diplomacy. The real King of any club is the one whose pays the wages.

Curious as to everyone's opinion on this...

I think that Arsenal, despite what coverage during negotiations may have indicated, is actually far less dependent upon its talisman than any of the other "big" clubs.

Man United - without Barney Rubble the wheels fall off.
Chelsea - may have many world class players and a deeper bench than anyone else but Drogba's timely scoring saves them. More so this year than last.
Us - Man Utd., Chelsea, Sputz, etc... all good results with no Henry. This assessment may not apply in CL.
Liverpool - might be the only other team without a single must have player. I know Gerrard is important but I think 99% of the time, they win or lose regardless of his presence.

Just curious as to thoughts. Not trying to say that Henry is unimportant by any means. Just thinking that, as that article points out, there may be some reasons why his absence is not always the detriment that it would seem to be on paper.

I doubt he's actually done the hammy. All this injury stuff is basically Wenger for "needs a break." And he does.
