Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, will soon become one of the coolest cities in the world. Why, you ask? Because they're planning to build a 500-foot-high "tent" over the entire metropolis to keep it warm in the winter. It'll be made from a special material that absorbs sunlight to give the effect of summer year-round, allowing lucky Kazaks to play tennis and go swimming while the rest of Eastern Europe is stuck bundling up and trudging through snow.

Let's not exaggerate, the base of the ten structure is 100,000 square meters in area. That's not the whole city. It's like a mall in area.

Yes it's the same architecture firm and that has nothing to do with why Wembley is late. That's all Multiplex's fault.

It's the same company the designed some of the best buildings in the world including the Sage music centre and Swiss Re HQ.

Because they want it and can afford it?

fastest growing economy globally for last few years, and small population with two urban centers accounting for most growth. Plus Kazakh capital is something like in Brazil where they built a monumental new planned city to be capital; so expensive show offish projects are a national quirk I guess.

The quote from the website in the original post is interesting, considering Kazakhstan isn't in Eastern Europe.
