View Full Version : January Transfer Thread II - Tranfer Harder

We sure do post a lot for a team that has explicitly stated we won't be making any January transfers.
When you see the transfer buzz start to pick up around every team, it makes you wonder why we aren't getting involved either - as much as I would like to bring in another striker, there is no chance of that happening. I would like to see us bring in our new goalkeeper this winter and slowly ease him in, so we don't have any major changes this summer.
Canon's calls for a new LB are definately warranted, but I'd wait until the summer to see how he is doing. We can't have both our wings constantly exposed because him and eboue love going forward, and then are poor on the defensive end.
Our goalkeeper looks like it will be pele, I'd prefer Akinfeev. Juve have said that buffon will probably be moving - unfortunately not to us. I have no idea what other big teams are in the market for a goalkeeper, its too bad he is too stubborn about leaving Italy. We have no one else to spend on, so I'd be happy to blow our entire transfer budget + some on a goalkeeper.
p.s: Need to fix typo on title.

Wenger wont sign anyone.
Lauren is coming back, Diaby is coming back, Clichy will get better (flippin' eck he's been out for about 16 years, he needs a few games, and is already better than Eboue at this point). I suspect Henry may well come back fired up too.
Bendtner, Muamba and Stokes are looking hopeful for the future, we have Song, Denilson, and Flamini for the CM position.
(please be aware, I think Song is rubbish, but Wenger doesn't and it's his decision...)

When is Diaby coming back? It's already been 6 months.

I'd send baptista back to Real too. I did some digging and its currently just a standard 1 year loan with the option to make it permanent at the end of the year. We are not bound to anything.
Let's be honest, he hasn't had a lot of playing time, and will have even less playing time when Henry comes back fit, and hopefully on fire. The fact that henry is upset about the 4-5-1, makes it even more unlikely he will get a lot of playing time this year unless adebayor and rvp pick up long term injuries.
At the end of the loan spell send him back, make real pay cash for Reyes, bendtner and stokes come into the team to replace baptista, and we use that cash on a goalkeeper.
I'm not saying baptista is not good, I was over the moon when we finally got him, but its clear he isnt going to get much of a chance here. Despite his injury, I don't think any of our recent transfers have had as little playing time as soon as they came here, even with wengers traditionally slow process of introducing them into the team.

Give him a chance. Lots of people would have sent Pires back after 6 months...

I think he is good enough, he just won't get much playing time. Rather have players we will end up using like bendtner than baptista warming the bench. You get the feeling we may have all 3 of our forwards out, and would still play 2 other players up front ahead of him.

All I want in January is Pele. Bring him in now, let him get settled and become the no.1 at the start of the new season. Lehmann wants to return to Germany after this season right?
After that, I'd recall the Dane and pretty much nothing else. We'd be set.

You just took the words right out of my mouth! There is a proven world class keeper right under our noses who would jump at the chance of a move to Arsenal. Only for him playing at Newcastle there would be a lot more about him. He has been consistently the best goalkeeper for club and country since he broke into the Newcastle first team. He must have saved over 100pts + for The Magpies single handedly over the years.
Maybe im a little biased but he is definately world class (taking into account internationals v Holland, France and Brazil to name a few) and he also has what Wenger likes in his keepers - experience, both prem Uefa Cup and World Cup.
If a move was possible it wouldnt be until the summer im sure.

I think we should get that bloke Santiago Munez from Newcastle, before Real Madrid get him...he looked good from the season I saw him play.:D
I can't wait for Diaby to come back.

This thread frustrates me a bit, the same way all wish lists do.
It's like I'm standing outside a beautiful restaurant full of beautiful, naked women eating beautiful food, and I have 3 dollars a coupon for KFC.

So what you are essentially saying is that there is no player realistic or un-realistic you would like to come to AFC??
Its not like there is individuals listing 11 players he/she would like to come in in January. Thats a "wish list", if everyone lists at least one player they would like its their opinion and not exactly a list.
I wouldnt rep that comment, its very dismissive.

So, is this Pele fellow any good?
I can't believe I just typed those words....heh, heh!
Let me clarify: this GK who is NOT Edson Arantes Du Nasimeinto really worth acquring?
I'd, of course, try to Google him, but I'm afraid he'd get lost in the Brasil '70 sites, et al.

World Soccer awarded him "Ligue 1 Newcomer of the Year" for 2005/2006. He's 25 and plays for Le Mans.

Yohann Pele is supposed to be quite good. A google search pulls up the usual ESPN, Yahoo Profile,Wiki, Sky Profile, etc...
I've also heard rumors of us going for Charles Itandje from Lens. Both are relatively young and could be long-term successors to Jens.

Hmm, sounds good, and he is between 192-196cm which is nice. What are his main qualities...like Jens comes out for crosses and likes to lose his cool.:p

No, that isn't what I'm writing at all. Not even close. I think either you're misreading, or I've been unclear. If I didn't want anyone, I would have written "I don't want anyone." Nor am I being truly dismissive. In fact, though I don't expect you to know my posts at all, I'm generally a fairly generous, non-dismissive poster. But if I must defend myself.....
First, I posted on the prequel to this list, describing a kind of player (traditional striker, but not a specific person) I'd like to have on the squad. I may have even named two. I also started a poll thread, wondering if Wenger really would sign anyone--on that very thread, I voted that though I don't think he will sign anyone, I think he should. In short, I never claimed to have no interest, fantastic or realistic, in adding to the team. Where do you see that?
Second, what I'm talking about is ACTUALLY that even though there are all sorts of folks I might want (much like the beautiful women, beautiful food from the analogy), Wenger continues to claim that he will not shop for anyone during the transfer window. In other words, as my initial post states, it is frustrating for me to think of all the signings I'd like, knowing that Wenger isn't likely to purchase anyone. That's it. So, I read all of the interesting possibilities (which together, form quite a list, hence the "wish list,") and hope that Wenger will change his mind (or find the money).
To tell you the truth, I may have gone overboard in my reaction here, but I think you truly missed the point.

We definitely need a GK and really nothing else .. We have good reserve players for our defense , decent midfielders on loan, good strikers on loan .. So a GK (preferably mad) would be the only necessity ..

I don't see the point of signing a GK in January. I will be the first to agree we will need one if Jens leaves, but there's no point in taking a GK out of regular first team action because "we'll need him later". We'll just end up hurting his form and denying him of playing time. Goalkeepers, unlike most other players, don't need a long time to adapt to tactics. A goalkeeper we buy will only need to adjust to the pace and rigours of the English game - all the other attributes need to be there already. (Is he big and tall? Can he handle crosses? Can he command the defence? ... and whatever other nonsense.)
First class goalkeepers are brought in to play straight away - not to be bled.
I'd like Bendtner to come back.
