“Arsenal have let Thierry down because he showed a commitment to them when he signed a new contract.
“He must have been told they would bring in new players and it hasn’t happened.
“For me, everything that has happened with Thierry over the past couple of weeks is the culmination of events in the past few months.
“All the pressure was put on him to commit to Arsenal as they moved into the new stadium.
“I have a lot of sympathy for him. He needs someone to take the pressure off him and the club have failed to buy a world-class striker — it’s not as if they can’t afford it.
“Robin van Persie is a great player, but he is not a goal machine. Arsenal need a Jermain Defoe-type player — a striker who knows where the goal is.
“Thierry’s body language tells you how frustrated he is and it’s unfair when people start questioning his application.”
In my mind, I'm not sure how much longer I can go on remembering Ian fondly, with all the bollox that comes out of his mouth. It seems he can't go more than a couple months without slating Arse in the press. He's starting to become a disgrace (although, others would argue it's well past that point.)

Also further proof that the most important person to Wrighty is....Wrighty. It was that way when he was at the club and it is today.

Arsenal need a Jermain Defoe-type player — a striker who knows where the goal is.
I think that tells us how seriously we need to take Ian's views these days.

I suspect that there's an element of frustration from Wright, and he never tends to put his brain in gear before he engages his mouth...

To be hounest, other then mentioning Defoe, I think he is tralking sense. Even all the players say they rely on Henry far too much. We don't really have a goal scorer other then him and now he is out. He has carried the weight of the club on his shoulders since the turn of the century... and I don't think anyone here could comprehend having the weight of the club on their shoulders as well as the burdens of everyday life. Don't forget, Wrighty and Henry are very close friends and Henry would of almost certainly told Wrighty this much.

jermain defoe and goal machine just doesnt go in the same sentance unless 'isnt' is in that same sentance. hilarious. would i prefer defoe to van persie? certainly not. especially as i was witness to his full cvntness at the sperz/arse game last week, where i was working in the players tunnel. absolute non-sense. true, we need another goalscorer, but i think the boss doesnt want to overload that position with players like walcott, bendtner, vela and stokes looking to get a chance, and we have seen they can all score goals. even if it is against weaker opposition, they are just that type of player.
ian wright was my best player when i was younger i used to try and copy everything he did on the pitch, football wise and he was like my hero. but now the 'gooner' just continues to baffle me, as all i ever hear from him is slagging the club off and it gets on my nerves. if he hasnt got nothing good to say then he should stop opening his mouth. im fed up of his negativity

It's that attitude that kept Wright from getting more England caps.

Defoe the Goal Machine:
West Ham - Played 93 - 29 goals (less than 1-in-3)
Spuds - Played 103 - 33 goals (less than 1-in-3)
England - Played 21 - 3 goals
Greavsie-like fox-in-the-box stats there. Wrighty, you're talking out of your hole.

he speaks some truth, we artn doing as well as arsenal should be and wengers youth policy is kinda making arsenal a little lightweight
i personally think the main reason was letting viera go a season early or 2 and not having someone to play behind henry with any ability near bergkamps
i personally would like wenger to buy some proven names to improve the squad

I think Wright is talking crud.
What does he think Rosicky and Gallas are? Are they not big names...
The only thing I can agree with is if he is talking about having to play with teammates like Song - now that is unacceptable!
But talking about Defoe...well he let his son go to Chelsea afterall, do you think he has good ideas???

Wrighty would probably point out that RVP has scored just 28 goals in 100apps for Arsenal. So he was half right on that one.

I'd take Jermaine Defoe in a heartbeat. Just because Jol is not using him right, says more about Jol than Defoe.
Secondly (and I do love van Persie) he's not nailed down the second striker role, either as Henry's partner or as the single striker in our 4-5-1. He's clearly not taking any heat off of Henry.
And lastly, Henry has the worst body language of any premier world class player I've ever seen. And he's something of a disaster as a captain (though I fully supported the move when we made it). And Henry has said that he's had some trouble adjusting to Ashburton Grove and life without Bergkamp and Vieira.
So, Wright was talking sense in my book.

he talks some sense. any striker is going to struggle soon as they lose bergkamp.
look at kluivert. after he loses bergkamp from the dutch team (and rivaldo+figo from barca) he turns to crapola.
not trying to compare henry to kluivert but he was the man for holland for a period.
many would argue that the only reason we were able to sell anelka for bucketloads to madrid was 'cause bergkamp made him look good, consistently.

And the reply would be, how many games has he started from midfield ?

OR Wrighty just read on THE SUN that Thierry was saying we should strengthen the squad this Jan transfer window with play such as SWP...
Im abit ambivalent now about buying players.... If Wenger really wanted to go for it this season he would buy someone experienced (like bloody Larsson). On the other hand if hes willing to drag on a lil longer then he might as well just let Ade continue his ever improving development. RvP has been abit inconsistant but I believe he will come good. We'd also have to give Lupoli, Bendtner and Stokesy a go but thats for next season.
