I voted for the rock music as well. I think that the intro really sets the tone for the rest of the show. Phil doesn't have the stereotypical excited radio personality voice, so that combined with soft music at the beginning relaxes me and causes me to drift off rather than exciting me to listen to the podcast. You guys seem a little more energetic with the rock music as well.

I do agree with the comments on Phil; he isnt the most cheerful person is he..
But i still believe that the old soft music is better than the hard rock beginning, the hard rock beginning makes me think that im listening to a podcast on rock music n not football . I vote for the soft music!!

I like the acoustic version over the rock version for exactly the same reason that I listen to Soccer Shout instead of WSD. The music promises low-key, no-nonsense reports, analysis, and wit, and it matches Phil's and Tony's voices perfectly. The rock music says, "Get ready for another exciting argument about Heysel and Hillsborough". And please, I'm not trying to import the flame war about this issue into this forum... only saying that the acoustic music reminds me why I like this podcast so much.
This may be corny, but the "one, two, three, four" at the beginning makes me look forward to the day when I can invite my son and daughter to enjoy the game like I do.
Keep up the good work. I listen every day!

Clearly this is an extremely divisive issue, but I prefer the headbang material myself. The soft music is more suited to a podcast on something uneventful like lying in a hammock, or even cricket. Go back to the rock - release the guitars! Please.

I think Tony must have voted for the acoustic music, because the last time the rock music opened the show (I think after the Chelsea v Arsenal match) he chuckled a little bit as Phil said hello. Am I right?
I think this is the right choice.

I chuckle a lot - more due to my infantile sense of humor than anything else - as a DVD Christmas special feature I'm compiling the best of Phils aborted intros ;) What you guys hear is often the 3rd or 4th attempt ;) theres some comedy gold in there I tell you ;)

I just want to remind Phil that he is in control and if he wants the rock music he should play the rock music. This is not a democracy!
