Thanks to Phil (and to Bill McGarvey) for playing the entire theme song at the end of the 12/19 show. It's really quite good. And it's a testament either to the song or to my denseness that I had no idea that the intro and the outro were part of the same song.

I hope that those who thought the intro was boring will think differently now, knowing how the song builds.

The wannabe DJ in me wants to pair this up with XTC's Earn Enough for Us. The lines "You're so good and you're so sweet/ you're a reason to make ends meet/ if only I knew how" match up nicely with Andy Partridge's lyrics. "But honest..."

I agree completely with bdm36, so much that I'm tempted to restate his points, but I'll refrain.

I might add that I associate the music with Soccer Shout so much that after five seconds, my mind is so much expecting Phil to say "Hello, and welcome to Soccer Shout..." that it's a shock to hear the Bill McGarvey song. I did, however, think that the song was fantastic.

I like the acoustic version over the rock version for exactly the same reason that I listen to Soccer Shout instead of WSD. The music promises low-key, no-nonsense reports, analysis, and wit, and it matches Phil's and Tony's voices perfectly. The rock music says, "Get ready for another exciting argument about Heysel and Hillsborough". And please, I'm not trying to import the flame war about this issue into this forum... only saying that the acoustic music reminds me why I like this podcast so much.

This may be corny, but the "one, two, three, four" at the beginning makes me look forward to the day when I can invite my son and daughter to enjoy the game like I do.

Keep up the good work. I listen every day!
