On FSC. Little will be back, apparently, but Oster will start as a bit of a reward for his performance Saturday. Mid-day fixture for those of us in the US, so I doubt many will be able to see it live. I doubt I'll be able to see it at all, unless I get creative. Anyway...come on Reading!

latest news from the BBC, seems the Toons are having injury trouble, not that Reading is free of injuries.......Convey, Kitson, Little etc, and did you guys know Hunt played with a broken rib against Bolton? and is going to probably play against Newcastle?
Midfielder Stephen Hunt is expected to feature for Reading despite the pain from two cracked ribs.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/eng_prem/6201436.stm
Newcastle manager John Roeder:
"None of us at the club have ever been involved in an injury-hit squad as bad as this.
"Honestly, most managers when they talk about bare bones, they are talking about being down to the last 16.
"I have not said anything yet and we are basically down to 10 senior players. The team picks itself for the match against Reading."
Reading manager Steve Coppell:
"A week is a long time in the Premiership and if we lose the next two games then I don't think anybody will be talking about Europe next week.
"Every week we have got to try to prove ourselves as being capable of competing in this league.
"We are doing ok, but we could easily have a slide for a multitude of reasons in terms of results."

My plans to watch the game just vanished, as someone decided to throw a party in my honor in Ankara tonight. I'm trying to figure if a one hour appearance is enough, so I can catch the second half.

Reading 2 Newcastle 1 half time
Harper (39, 42)
Sieberski (22)
Hunt of for Little seems like the rib is bothering him.

i went home to eat lunch and watch the first half. reading have dominated in terms of possession--something like 80-20 and the newcastle fans were letting them hear it too, especially after harper's 2nd. however, newcastle were unlucky to not be up or level themselves based on the defense and sonko's performance in particular. sometimes he is just lights out, and others its is there a light on? his man-marking/ball-watching has got to stop. he just loses focus and murty and marcus are left hanging in the wind. that aside, if reading can keep playing their game, this could be a great road win.

3 - 2 Newcastle over Reading.
The Penalty call on Sonko was iffy at best from reports on the Reading website Sonko missed the ball and Martins happend to be in the right place at the right time and was awarded the pen kick...that changed the entire game, Emeri scores in the 83 to seal it for New Castle.
Tough Loss should have gotten the 3 points out of this game, Hopefully we do better vs Watford.

God, this was a disappointment--especially after storming back from 1-0. with sonko's overall performance, i'm not really surprised it was he who conceded the penalty either.

Hope you don't mind a Toon fan invading your forum but I saw the game and wanted to just give my take on the 'talking points'.
It was a very free-flowing game, pulsating in pretty much every aspect at one time or another. The only real difference between the two sides was that Newcastle created more goalscoring opportunities than did Reading. When you do that in these evenly-contested games, you're going to win most of the time.
Harper's first goal was fortunate, it took a deflection off of Solano and Given had no chance. The second was well taken after Babayaro made an absolute mess of a clearance (twice).
Hahnemann could not have done anything differently about any of Newcastle's goals. Sibierski was left unmarked for a header at about eight yards out. He went the right way on the penalty but could only slow it down rather than tip it around the post. Emre's winner was pure class.
I'll be the first to admit that Reading got jobbed on the penalty. Martins looked like going to ground before Sonko's boot ever flashed across his torso. That said, Sibierski scored a few minutes later but it was waved off, apparently for offside, when he was had at least two defenders playing him onside, so I suppose Styles evened the penalty up right there.
Reading continue to impress me with every game I watch of theirs. I said at the start of the season that I expected them to beat the drop, but they very well could finish top half if they keep playing the way they are right now. They're a pretty good football team, imo, it just wasn't there for them today.

Didn't see the game. Haven't seen any highlights. Kind of disappointing, but I expected it. I was surprised that Harper scored the goals.

I beg to differ. Reading was solid but not good enough for 3. Maybe in the least a draw but they just didn't create enough shots on goal, and didn't take advantage of the insane number of corners they won.

I haven't seen the match or highlights, but I'm sure this shocks no one. :)

Soccernet shows 8 but I could have sworn it was more around 11.

And by that comment I hope you don't misunderstand and think I was mocking you in some way. Its a problem I have noticed all year we don't have any kind of size outside of Sonko to take advantage of corners. At the start of the year we tried the short corner thing and that didn't work, well nothing seems to as far as corners go for this team. One of the only complaints I can really have.

No worries.
My response was merely to post the stats. I sympathize with your inablilty to finish chances. I do support Newcastle.

You hate to give up a lead...any time you go into half time with the lead and don't get 3 points, it's frustrating. Having said that, IMO a draw would have been the fairest result.
That was shambolic defensive organization out there, wasn't it? Made for an interesting game. :D
