Ummmm, right ok.
In the first thread I agreed at the time aside from the goalkeeper point and I didn't even check the other thread after I had posted, thus only one reply. I just did a simple search to pass the time and your statement is false.
I want to look at the quality of player Pelé played with for Santos and against in São Paulo in more detail before making a decision one way or the other. If we just look at the Brazilian squad of the time as an example, of the players who played in the São Paulo regional league all were team mates of Pelé at Santos (Carlos Alberto, Zito, Pepe and Gilmar). I'm sure I read that somewhere and until I have had the time to examine that league in greater detail, I feel it's naive to instantly accept what tpmazembe and others have posted.

Ok you get back to me and tell me what league Corinthians, Palmeiras, Portuguesa and Sao Paulo were playing in at the time (the clue for Sao Paolo is in the name!).
I dare say it'll take you another two years, like it has taken you to get back to tpmazembe!

Messi shouldn't be uttered in the same breath as the above...at least yet.
You are right, but Messi is a good player, and probably will be if and when he retires, if he keeps all of this up.

Yeah it's the same with Rooney and C.Ronaldo though. But because they're all so good now doesn't automatically mean they're going to get better and better. Some people have different peaks and reach their plateaux quite early. This might be as good as it gets from all of them.

There really is no correct answer to all of this.
Thats about right regarding this topic.
There really is no ONE player that stood above all others.
Any one answer will be based on preference and opinion.

True enough. Specially when you consider that Pele and Maradona, in spite of both wearing 10, played different roles for their teams. I prefer to say: Pele the greatest goal scorer ever and Maradona the greatest offensive link.

Guys, I think we should take it easy and realize that there is no way to determine with 100% accuracy who was the best player ever...
I'm going to say the greatest it's Reiziger. :p

Oh, hell no! It was Bogarde; a leftfooted worse version of Reiziger. He should have become a boxer.
Sorry, nice, I know you like him.

I take it that you are still looking into the Sao Paulo championship teams then.

I do have a life but it's on the list. I assume you are still trying to claim that it is impossible to have seen Chilavert play for Vélez if you like in the UK?

I never actually said that, but as so often happens you misquote what was written.
I didn't say it was impossible to see Chilavert at Velez. What I said was that I didn't believe that you had. I stand by that.

Diego Armando Maradona for me. Anyone that can take a small mediocre club like Napoli and lead them to winning Scudetti and European Cups is the best player ever to walk the earth in my book.
