Good win today the boys showed some serious determination right from the off we wanted this more than spurs. I think Arsene has a problem a lot of managers would love to have. He has two young center backs and they're both going to need time on the pitch. They both have loads of pontential but I don't think anyone saw what Djourou could become before they gave phil the #6 shirt. If we couldn't keep both of them which one would you keep?

Not easy! On present form I'd say our pecking order is
1. Toure and Gallas
3. Djourou
4. Senderos
They're both young and this/will could change. Djourou reeks of class though and could turn out to be something special, but, Phillippe reminds me of Tony Adams and he wasn't too shabby!

I think some people are being a bit to quick to throw Phil under the bus. He isn't as fast as Djourou but he's better in the air and can even score a few from set pieces which is pretty rare in our squad. He is also better positionally and more verbal at getting the backline on the same page. However, I'd play Djourou over Phil at the moment because I don't think Senderos has fully come back from that long injury time off and needs reserve games to get back up to pace. I'd expect both to have good chances of playing for us for years to come. Djourou's ability to also cover at FB and even play as a dmid should mean that he'll get more apps until Gallas leaves us because Phil is restricted to CB.

That's what I would have written. I personally want Big Phil.

I used to think that way too. However, after seeing how Senderos performed against Fulham I am starting to be very frustrated with Senderos, and his fitness is no excuse cause it had been a while already since he came back. He was truly terrible, as bad if not worse than Cygan at his "prime".
Of course, clearly he wasn't helped by having Hoyte and Flamini at the flanks, but if he wants to have a long term future with us he has to stop performing badly now and then. The next game against Chelsea will show us what he is truly made of, he was raped badly by Drogba last season and I dread them facing up again considering how Drogba has improved significantly. And then there's Sheva who's still a class player that can bite Senderos badly if he is not careful.

It was only his second game back in the Prem and trying to adjust to the pace of the league compared to his earlier league cup games for example. When you add in the fact that Flamini was out of position all game long, the dmids in front of him sucked (especially Song), and that Senderos's lack of pace made covering all of that space next to impossible, you'd have to be extremely biased to blame that game on Senderos.
I don't expect him to play great against Chelski either. First, I doubt he'll somehow have shaken off all the rust by then. Second, Drogba has been all but unstoppable this season for CBs in perfect health at the top of their form so expecting our patchwork backline to excel against him and then judging Senderos (who would probably list Drogba as his personal bogey player) based on the upcoming game only makes sense if you have some agenda to "prove" that he's not good enough. The good thing is that Wenger is smart enough not to make such rash judgements so Phil's future with the club won't depend on the Chelski game.

Also his fellow defenders would have to adjust their game to compensate for his pace. Dojourou was prem ready and holding up his end...someone remarked it wasn't the right time to reintroduce Sendros, Dojourou spot was there to lose not to be given away and the sending off may've been a blessing!

It depends...with flamini at LB--Djourou; with clichy at LB and Senderos fit--toss up; with Gallas at LB to cover and Senderos fit--BigPhil. But if Gallas is fit, wouldn't you rather see him in over the Swiss pair?
Anyway, with the holiday crunch coming up, I see Wenger going for some regular rotation to rest some players...Our whole team functions better when Gallas is in the lineup, so I hope Wenger can keep him injury free for the remainder.

Agreed Rotation is a must this time this year, last year we fell wictim to that with our limited squad but this year our squad is fit and ready to rumble

If I recall correctly, I think they did play as a pair for Switzerland this past World Cup once at least.

From what i've seen of him lately, Djourou definitely deserves to be ahead of Senderos .. Though some competition wouldn't harm both of them ..

During the CL run, Phil was fantastic! On current form, Djourou gets my vote.
We need competition for our full-backs. They look weak, defensively.
