What was actually up with Duff's knee? Was it a miniscus or was it ligament damage?
And I didn't know Pattison was hurt.

How bad is Parker's back? Is it "no return date" because they arent sure what is wrong or because it is that serious.

Newcastle give youth a chance as injury list lengthens
By Damien Spellman
Published: 29 November 2006
The Newcastle manager, Glenn Roeder, is struggling to put together a squad for tomorrow night's Uefa Cup match with Eintracht Frankfurt as the club have 11 names on the casualty list.
The midfielders Kieron Dyer, who spent Sunday night in hospital after gashing his thigh during the 1-0 Premiership victory over Portsmouth, and Scott Parker have already been ruled out of the party to travel toFrankfurt. And they could yet be joined by James Milner and Charles N'Zogbia as they undergo treatment for hip and shin injuries respectively.
With Michael Owen, Shola Ameobi, Craig Moore, Damien Duff, Tim Krul and Olivier Bernard all long-term absentees and Steve Harper having flown to Germany for surgery on a double hernia, Roeder could be forced to give youth a chance at the Commerzbank Arena.
The youngsters Paul Huntington, Andrew Carroll, David Edgar and James Troisi were all on the bench for the 2-1 victory over Celta Vigo last week, and could be joined on the plane by goalkeeper Fraser Forster as the Magpies look for the point they need to ensure they finish at the top of Group H.
Roeder said: "Scott Parker has had a scan on his back and it has shown he has a strained muscle. While it is difficult to say how long he will be out of action, he will not be with us in Frankfurt. Kieron Dyer will not be going either. His leg was so bad that he spent Sunday night in hospital having the wound cleaned, and there is no way he will be able to play.
"Steve Harper is already in Germany, and while we would like to have waited until after Thursday for him to have his operation, he has a double hernia and the medical experts advised us that he should have his operation as soon as possible.
"That means that all our keepers - Shay Given, Steve and Tim Krul - will have had big operations this season.
"It also means that for the second trip into Europe we will have a teenage keeper with us in the shape of Fraser Forster, who will be on the bench. But if a player is missing, then it gives someone else a chance - and everybody knows what happened to Tim Krul in Palermo."
The Dutchman performed heroics in Sicily but has since had an operation to repair a damaged knee.

Bramble's injury KO
Dec 4 2006
By Alan Oliver, The Evening Chronicle
Titus Bramble is out of Newcastle United's first Premiership match with Reading at St James' Park on Wednesday.
The in-form central defender picked up a calf injury in Thursday's goalless UEFA Cup draw against Eintracht Frankfurt and has joined United's never-ending injury list.
For with Kieron Dyer unlikely to figure on Wednesday night, Glenn Roeder will find himself without no fewer than NINE players against Steve Coppell's brave young side - Michael Owen, Shola Ameobi, Scott Parker, Damien Duff, Craig Moore, Steve Harper, Tim Krul and now Dyer and Bramble.
But there was at least some much-needed good news for Roeder at the training ground today, with full-backs Stephen Carr and Celestine Babayaro expected to return against Reading after their respective toe and groin injuries.and the beat goes on.

DYER NEWS FOR MAGPIES
Posted 05/12/06 11:36
EmailPrintSave
Newcastle will be without injured midfielder Kieron Dyer for Wednesday night's Barclays Premiership match against Reading and fear he could miss several games.
The 27-year-old suffered a nasty thigh injury when he collided with advertising hoardings during the 1-0 league win over Portsmouth on November 26.
Manager Glenn Roeder will make a late decision on Stephen Carr (foot) who is rated a 50-50 chance, but Celestine Babayaro (groin) is fit and Giuseppe Rossi is available again.
However, Titus Bramble (calf) is another to have joined Scott Parker (back muscle), Michael Owen, Damien Duff and Tim Krul (all knee), Shola Ameobi and Olivier Bernard (both hip), Craig Moore (hamstring) and Steve Harper (groin) on the injured list. I agree missing Carr and Babayaro is a gift.

However, the three precious Premiership points came at a cost as three more key players limped off injured.
Emre, Nobby Solano, Antoine Sibierski all appeared to hobble off with Emre in particular looking to have sustained a nasty ankle injury.Waiting for more news regarding these new injuries.

With 11 players sidelined, the influential Emre was first taken off on a stretcher following a 51st minute tackle by Pedersen, with the Turkish midfielder appearing to sustain a broken leg.
From Soccernet, I hope they are wrong. :(

Roeder said in his post match interview with BBC that they had originally feared a broken ankle, but that it appeared to be ligament damage only. Basically a bad sprain.
Of course they'll not know for sure until x-rays and MRIs are done, but it sounds like it's more short-term than long-term.
Sibierski and Solano appeared to be muscle pulls.
Blood the youth at Chelsea, I say!

There has to be something wrong with the program in regards to conditioning. Between the coaches and physios and/or players something doesn't seem to be right. For players to get injured as often and then their recovery time is a bit longer than what is should be, I tend to question if Newcastle really have highly specialized professionals (or quacks) who examine and treat injured players. A club with a high quality medical staff would have improved injury-reduction and recovery in their players, no?

Roeder mentioned a few weeks ago that Derek Wright and one of the other physios have been at Newcastle since he was a defender. I can't imagine that you could hold your job that long and be a quack. Maybe they are getting senile?
BTW... might as well sticky this thread. It will be an important one all season.

Well, that partially explains it. I respect all elders in life but at times there has to be a fresh set of eyes to make things better. The medical profession changes here and there, and this could be a case where they need to get with the times in order to prevent and reduce injury times. Prevention (as us military folk say) is the key to avoiding mishaps.

Now Butt's Blues doubt
Dec 12 2006
By Alan Oliver, The Evening Chronicle
Newcastle United were left sweating on yet another problem today after their key midfielder Nicky Butt was sent home from the training ground by the club's doctor suffering from a virus.
It's the last thing Glenn Roeder wanted on the eve of tomorrow's visit to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea - and on the eve of his 51st birthday.
But as ever Roeder remained upbeat, saying: "We are hoping by packing Nicky off home to recover he could still be with us on our plane to London tomororw morning.
"It seems he has a virus and a heavy cold, and to tell the truth he didn't look too goodThe curse continues.:(

No Butts - Nicky's Better
By Gary Oliver
NEWCASTLE United midfielder Nicky Butt has given manager Glenn Roeder a boost by shaking off a virus.
The in-form star reported for training on Monday feeling under the weather and was promptly sent home. However, he was back for work 24 hours later feeling a lot better.
The manager revealed: "Nicky came in yesterday and had a virus and a temperature.
"We sent him home and he had a good night's sleep and typically of him he was in for training the next day and you'd never have guessed he was off yesterday. He's fine."
Off the club site today.
