I just saw today that Chelsea were interested in David Villa, but his buy out clause is 100 million pounds....this leads to the question

which players in the world of football are worth 100 million?

1.Ronaldinho
2.Eto'o
3.Messi
4.Cristiano Ronaldo
5.Kaka

those are the only players that i would spend 100 million on if i were the manager of a club.....who would you spend 100 million on?

Yes, but to their respective clubs they are worth whatever the buyout clause is set at.

I don't expect any clubs to be paying that amount any time soon, but they set those clauses high so they don't risk losing their player if some new guy comes along that is even dumber than Abramovic

But yes, I wouldn't be terribly surprised if Dinho would cost 100 mio. But to me he ain't worth it, I don't think he's even worth 50. I'd rate the most expensive player at around 45 mio euro. Bidding is different though.

3) Messi, Rooney ~35 mio euro (much of it due to age and potential)
4) Cannavaro-Pirlo-Eto'o-C. Ronaldo-Robinho, Robben ~30 mio
5) Gattuso, Klose, Ballack, Gerrard, Ibrahimovic, A. Cole, Terry, Essien, Shevchenko, Drogba, Buffon, Puyol, Deco, David Villa, Zambrotta, van Persie ~25 mio euro

Thats about where I rate everyone. Of course I have tremendous bias towards Bundesliga players, but thats just me. :p

Well I don't think Ballack plays like he's worth that much but his reputation and his form for Germany speak a lot more IMO. Similar player in similar form right now is Nesta, who has been awful.

Well.....if we're going to judge players on form or how their roles play out with their teams, every price would just fluctuate all over the place. Rooney is worth more than Messi by the way.

LOL 100 million! I don't think any player could be worth that much. For a player to be worth that price they would have to be athetically fit to the max, good team player, ever touch on the ball must flawless, good dribbling (and I mean really good dribbling:D ), honest player (no diving/ conning the ref) and must be consistent.

For a player to be worth 100 million, not only does he have to be able to carry the team on his back consistently and against the best teams, he has to sell a lot of shirts as well. Maybe Ronaldinho would be worth that, as he can change any game in the blink of an eye and sells a lot of shirts, but even that's expensive if he loses form.

Messi isn't worth much in my opinion, and Rooney doesn't perform often enough to make him worth that much money.
