I agree. The whole "I'm a badass rock star" thing was kinda funny for a while...but now it's old.

I don't need a svcky movie to know he's a one note song. Adam Sandler - but less funny.

I'm not sure that's possible.

Whatever happened to the really funny movies? All the new ones try TOO hard and maybe get a few chuckles out but then they go dry.
Think I'll go watch Animal House.....

Comedy ain't what it used to be simply because of the actors - the quality of humerous actors went way down. Seriously, Murray, Belushi. Steve Martin, Chris Farley, Mike Meyers - I mean these were real characters. We don't have any of them nowadays.
Don't like Jack Black either but we should give him a break - he did grow up in a nudist colony.

I wanted to give the movie a chance. I know he did some really funny, offbeat stuff on HBO. I liked him in High Fidelity. I like that he brings a sense of humor to music. School of Rock was entertaining, if a little predictable and inconsequential.
But I saw the trailer for the Tenaciaous D movie, and I have to agree with the threadstarter. It's basically for people who can't handle the intelligence and subtelty of Wayne's World.

I have to agree with that probably unpopular assessment. And let me throw Mike Myers in there, too.

Heeeeeyyyyy!..I liked Nacho Libre! :D If you watch it as a "satire" of kung fu movies, its funny.

Isn't Mike Myers still doing comedy? I think comedy is as god as ever. To me David Cross and Bob Odenkirk are funnier than all those people you mentioned and Steve Carrell and Will Ferrell are as good as anyone too. Jack Black used to be funny but I wasn't a fan of Nacho Libre and I haven't seen this movie to say anything. But I think the "comedy is dead" is total BS.

Didn'g say comedy was dead, there are plenty of brilliant ones out there, they're just not in movies or in tv shows, all the bad ones are.

Carrell and Ferrell have a lot of work and there been greats TV shows that don't last like Arrested but at least they got made. I think Black may be going down but they are a lot worse comedians out there and a lot more bad work done that for him to be a sign of the decay of sucesful comedy.

He was great in High Fidelity. Beyond that, I can't comment since I have not seen another Jack Black film. They all look terrible in the ads.
